5 Easy Last Minute DIY Halloween Costumes

Uh-oh, Halloweekend is right around the corner, and you still don’t have a costume? If you don’t want to spend $50 at Party City, or don’t have time to cut, glue, and sew together some elaborate costume in under an hour; fear not. You can make a costume with a few things that you probably already have in the back of your closet. And don’t worry, these easy costumes consist of more than a bra, mini skirt, and bunny ears!

 1. Scarecrow

Although you probably will be doing more charming than you will scaring, this costume can be cute or creepy, depending on the look you're going for. Pair any flannel or striped button-up with a summer straw sunhat. To create the smile and nose, use any black eyeliner for the outlines and orange or brown eyeshadow to fill the triangle nose. Add blush circles to your cheeks and long dramatic under eye lashes with more liner.

Time: 5-10 minutes

2. Rosie the Riveter

We can do it! A blue or jean button up and a red bandanna is all you need to be a retro rockabilly rebel! Create a small puff or twist on the front/top of your hair and pin it. Wrap the bandana around and create a small knot.   Roll up the sleeves, add a pop of color with some bright red lipstick, and darken your eyebrows for this classic 1940’s look!

Time: 10-15 minutes

3. Catwoman

All black everything is all you need. A black top, tight black pants, and some black boots will create this fierce supervillain. Add red lipstick and a black mask or ears.  If you don’t have the mask or ears you can make them. With either black face paint or eyeliner, just outline and fill a dark mask shape around your eyes. The jewels are optional as well.

Time: 10-15 minutes

4. Sugar Skull

You don’t necessarily have to be picasso to transform into a colorful calavera. You can cover your whole face, half of your face, or just one part depending on how last minute it is. Over a white base, just create circles around your eyes, fill them with colors and then outline them with flower petals. Then, color your nose and create a skeleton-like mouth. You can even wear any dress of your choice!

Time: 15-20 minutes

5. Zombie

Why be the life of the party...when you can be the death of the party! If nice and sweet isn’t quite your style, then toss the glitter and sparkles and rip up and distress any clothes you don’t mind ruining. The key to this look is all about the makeup. Darken your eyes and sink in your cheekbones with black, purple, and brown eyeshadow. Add dark lipstick and even a drop or two of  blood.

Time: 10-15 minutes

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
