They're cute and loyal, unlike most people.

4 Reasons Why You Should Get A Dog

I'm always nagging my parents about getting a dog, or even any pet besides a fish. Whenever I see one of my friends with a dog, I'm automatically triggered. My mom's excuse is always: "Dogs are scary and they will bite your baby brother." and my dad's is: "No one would take care of it and pick up its poop." However, the benefits of having a dog outweigh the costs by far.

1. Cancer Detection

This is the most interesting fact I've figured out. Who doesn't want a cute, automatic cancer detector? No doctor necessary. Because of their amazing sense of smell and caution for danger, dogs can sniff out even the smallest signs of danger. Furthermore, they can also smell blood and notice a cut that you didn't even know you had.

2. Stress Reliever

No, you are not allowed to punch your dog to relieve stress. Petting or playing with your dog releases dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter associated with happiness. Now you feel like life is more worth living than before. Less stress also means lower blood pressure, which will reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, being more happy(or less sad) improves your overall health and self-esteem. Next time you have a test the next day, grab a dog, pet it, and your stress level automatically goes down.

3. Service Animal

Not only can your dog make you happy, but they can also relieve the stress of others. Additionally, they can be trained to detect incoming illnesses and help people with disabilities cope with life. At home, dogs take careful guard and protect you from possible intruders. If they sense anything odd, they will alert the owner, though some of the dogs I know bark at any incoming human, or just anything that moves.

4. Responsibility

Remember my dad claiming that I wouldn't be able to take care of it? Well, that's the whole point of taking care of a dog. Certainly, having a dog will make me for responsible and committed, not the other way around. Who cares if I have to go around following my dog and picking up poop? It's a great way to get a nerd like me to go outside and exercise.

Being a person who has always been begging for a dog and being constantly rejected, I want to prove that dogs are adorable, fun pets (unlike fish) that can make me a better person (In fact, the opposite effect is achieved). I will now shove all this evidence in front of my parents' faces.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
