35 Simple Ways To Make Someone's Day

Going through college, we could all use a pick-me-up every now and again. Here is a list of several ways you can do just this. Make someone's day, who knows, you may even make their week or maybe even their whole year!

1. Call someone and ask them how their day has been.

2. Write your best friend a letter telling them how much you appreciate them.

3. Thank your professor when you leave class to assure them you are learning something from them.

4. Write a letter to someone you haven't talked to in a while and remind them of how awesome they are.

5. Pick up some trash on the ground to help the environment.

6. Donate some old clothes to your local homeless shelter.

7. Bake some cookies and take them to the fire or police department.

8. Next time you go out to eat, tip your server extra well.

9. Pay for the person behind you in the drive-thru line.

10. Hold the door open for someone.

11. Write an uplifting note to a classmate.

12. Look in the mirror and tell yourself three things you like about yourself.

13. Dedicate a day to your siblings and enjoy spending time with them.

14. Smile at everyone you pass while walking to class.

15. Forgive that person you are still holding a grudge against.

16. Start a conversation with someone in the elevator.

17. Take your friend out for coffee and offer to pay.

18. Give a flower to somebody.

19. Walk your dog.

20. Share your lunch with someone who forgot theirs.

21. Send a care package to someone in the military.

22. Donate your old books to the library.

23. Offer your seat to someone standing on the bus.

24. Volunteer at a local non-profit organization.

25. Participate in a blood drive.

26. Leave nice comments on people's Facebook selfies.

27. Call your grandparents to catch up with them.

28. Bring treats to your co-workers to leave in the work room.

29. Leave an uplifting note on the bathroom mirror.

30. Let someone else go ahead of you.

31. Really listen to the next person who asks you for advice.

32. Encourage a friend to try something new with you.

33. Give your unused coupons to the person behind you at the grocery store.

34. Leave change in the vending machine.

35. Leave extra time on a parking meter.

Here is my challenge to you: do at least one of these random acts of kindness each day for the next two weeks. You will be surprised at how much your life can change in a positive way just from being intentionally nice to others.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
