30 Things Only ECU Students Will Understand

1. The love/hate relationship you have with Brother Ross.

2. Being scared for your life while walking up and down the stairs in Brewster.

3. When your Pandora/Spotify app cuts in and out at the gym because everyone is taking your wifi.

4. Actually wifi on campus just sucking in general.

5. When Chick-Fil-A on campus is out of chicken minis.

6. Walking on campus Friday morning after Thirsty Thursday and wondering if any students even go here.

7. Recognizing football season as a semester long holiday.

8. Wishing your Pirate Bucks could be accepted at your favorite bars and restaurants so you wouldn't have to use 'real' money.

9. The war we like to call class registration period.

10. Being genuinely pissed off when the music doesn't play if you walk up the stairs to Joyner. Do you not recognize me as a person?

11. Having to sit on the floor because there are no seats/tables in the library during exam week. Where were all of y'all a couple of weeks ago?

12. The feeling you have after you walk all the way to the gym only to realize you forgot your OneCard.

13. Losing the keys to your dorm. #FreshmenProblems

14. How excited you get when you remember it's Fried Chicken Wednesday at the dining hall.

15. The West End vs. Todd debate.

16. Feeling like you're playing Frogger when you try to cross 10th Street.

17.  When the line at Omar's or Michelangelo's is out the door and you're drunk and just want a Cheesesteak Pita and/or whole pizza to yourself.

18. Knowing that when pool party season starts your class attendance will drop tremendously.

19. Getting to know the Greenville locals over the summer and realizing that other people really live here.

20. Strategically walking to class through Rawl, Austin and Bate when it's cold so you don't have to walk outside.

21. Waiting in line for hours to pick up your Student Pirate Club card.

22. Ending Spring exam week with a well-deserved Sup Crush.

23. Knowing that a couple of inches of snow will inevitably become a week of cancelled classes, parties and drink specials downtown--and loving every second of it.

24. Being totally over it when someone makes an 'umbrella gunman' joke.

25. Having a class in Belk that ends at 10:50 and a class in Bate that starts at 11.

26. Being either super excited or super depressed about the fact that the girl to boy ratio is basically one million to one, depending on if you're a guy or a girl.

27. Feeling like you're in prison while you do math CAVE hours for math 1065.

28. Still being run over by skateboarders and bikers even though there are new designated lanes for them on campus.

29. Taking full advantage of the dining hall food when freshmen orientation and tour groups come to visit. Why can't it be that good all the time?

30. Knowing that even though college only lasts four (or five) years, you'll always be a Pirate at heart.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
