SDorm life can be difficult, especially for first-year students. You get taken out of your regular habitat and are forced to make a home out of your new one. This can easily lead to a feeling of displacement. Being uncomfortable with one's living situation can often time be the hardest part about going away from home for college. Here are three ways to ease this feeling and make your dorm more homey.
1. Put up lots of pictures.
Living on a college campus means leaving your loved ones behind. A great way to show remembrance is to keep pictures of your best memories hung up on your wall or taped on your desk. It is also a great way to keep reminded to call and check in on your mom or best friend once the busy semester starts up.
2. Add furniture.
Some schools actually forbid students from having furniture like a bean bag chair or a lamp. While these things are very homey, a couple of throw pillows, a cute plant, or a rug will do just fine.
3. Symbols.
It's important that you don't allow school work to swallow you as a person. A great way to prevent that is to keep symbols around you that remind you of who you are. This can come in the shape of your country's flag hung up where you can see it, your religious symbol as a bracelet or keychain, and even owning a lot of your favorite color.
