I think we all need a little time to settle down from the excitement that this World Series has brought.
Congratulations to the Houston Astros on an amazing season and their first ever world championship. The city of Houston definitely deserves this championship after all they have gone through the last couple of months.
Based on the sheer quality of play, there are rumblings that this World Series could rank among the best World Series’ of all time. For these reasons, I am inclined to agree with that assessment.
#1 Evenly Matched
Both teams throughout this whole series were evenly matched that all seven games could have gone one way or another. Great pitching and great offenses collided and produced a mind-boggling 78 total runs scored.
Either team could have emerged the victor based on results like those.
#2 Fresh Matchup
What’s been great about the last couple of World Series is that no one team has returned year after year, other than Kansas City in 2014 and ’15, which means that someone new has come up. Gone are the days of the Yankee dynasty and the big market teams getting the hold over the World Series. The days of parity are here to stay for the time being.
With both the Astros and Dodgers winning over 100 games and also adding in the emotion factor with Houston still recovering from Hurricane Harvey, this matchup was an intriguing one for fans going in and the ratings showed that with average viewership reaching over 20 million for games 6 and 7.
#3 Stars Young and Old
Seeing players like Clayton Kershaw and Houston’s group of young stars finally get the chance to play in the World Series after being denied for years was a special treat for many fans.
For years Kershaw was one of those players where he would put up otherworldly numbers in the regular season but could not quite get the job done in the playoffs. To see it all come full circle this year was amazing.
