Taylor Swift has always been infamous for being able to speak for us teenage girls when we couldn’t find the words to speak for ourselves. No matter the feeling or situation, Taylor always had a way of describing it perfectly for us and for that we will forever be grateful. Here’s to Taylor Swift and the generation of girls that grew up using her lyrics to get through all of the bad days.
1. “In your life, you'll do greater things than dating the boy on the football team / But I didn't know it at 15” -Fifteen
This is the lyric every teenage girl needs to hear. The jock you’re so heartbroken over won’t matter five years from now. You are so much more than that boy. Thanks for that reminder, Taylor.
2. “I forget about you long enough to forget why I needed to” –All Too Well
I think we all know that feeling.
3.“People like you always want back the love they gave away / And people like me wanna believe you when you say you've changed” –All You Had to Do Was Stay
Boys always come back when they realize what a good thing they had going. And girls tend to see the best in even the worst people.
4. “She's not a saint and she's not what you think / She's an actress, whoa / She's better known for the things that she does on the mattress” –Better Than Revenge
I’m glad Taylor found a nicer way of saying what I was thinking.
5.“You put up walls and paint them all a shade of gray / And I stood there loving you and washed them all away / And you come away with a great little story / Of a mess of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you” –Cold As You
Almost every girl has the same weakness. We just can’t give up on people. We’ll stick around way to long trying to love someone who doesn’t know how to be loved.
6.“I took your matches/ Before fire could catch me / So don’t look now I’m shining like fireworks / Over your sad empty town” –Dear John
It doesn’t matter how hard you boys knock us down; we always come back better and brighter each time.
7. “I bet you think I either moved on or hate you / Cause each time you reach out there's no reply / I bet it never ever occurred to you that I can't say "Hello" to you / And risk another goodbye” –I Almost Do
Boys just don’t understand that sometimes it’s easier to walk away and pretend we hate you than to take the chance of another heartbreak.
8.“You're thinking that I hate you now / Cause you still don't know what I never said / I wish you would come back / Wish I never hung up the phone like I did / And I wish you knew that I'll never forget you as long as I live” –I Wish You Would
When you realize that stupid fight wasn’t worth losing the person.
9.“I hope the sun shines / And it's a beautiful day / And something reminds you / You wish you had stayed / You can plan for a change in weather and time / But I never planned on you changing your mind” –Last Kiss
This is every girls' wish for their ex boyfriend that left them without warning. I want you to remember me, not when you’re sad and lonely, but when you’re happy and on top of the world and realize that you wish you were sharing that moment with me.
10.“You find yourself at my door / Just like all those times before / You wear your best apology / But I was there to watch you leave” –The Last Time
Coming back and saying “I’m sorry” doesn’t mean much when I’ve already watched you leave.
11.“The cynics were outraged / Screaming, "this is absurd!" / Cause for a moment a band of thieves in ripped up jeans got to rule the world” –Long Live
Taylor Swift successfully put into words how it feels to be riding around with the windows down, singing your lungs out with your friends at midnight on a Friday night.
12.“I said, "Leave," but all I really want is you / To stand outside my window throwing pebbles / Screaming, ‘I’m in love with you’” –The Other Side of the Door
We want you boys to fight for us. It’s simple really.
15.“So don't you worry your pretty little mind / People throw rocks at things that shine / And life makes love look hard” –Ours
Love is a really simple thing when you have it right.
16.“I realize you love yourself more than you could ever love me / So go and tell your friends that I'm obsessive and crazy / That's fine! / I'll tell mine / You're gay” –Picture to Burn
Hahahahaha the lyric that made me fall in love with T Swift.
17.“I don't know what I want, so don't ask me / Cause I'm still trying to figure it out / Don't know what's down this road / I'm just walking / Trying to see through the rain coming down” –A Place in This World
This is what I want to reply every time someone asks me what I want to do with my life.
18.“Words, how little they mean when you're a little too late” –Sad, Beautiful, Tragic
It doesn’t matter what you say to me if you’re too late and I don’t want to hear it anymore.
19.“I just like hanging out with you all the time / All those times that you didn't leave / It's been occurring to me / I'd like to hang out with you for my whole life” –Stay, Stay, Stay
That’s a much easier, less scary way of saying you want to spend the rest of your life with someone.
20.“I'd tell you I miss you but I don't know how / I've never heard silence quite this loud” –The Story of Us
Sometimes no response is a much more telling than actually saying something.
21.“This is looking like a contest / Of who can act like they care less / But I liked it better when you were on my side / The battle's in your hands now / But I would lay my armor down / If you said you'd rather love than fight” –The Story of Us
I can’t think of a better way to describe how it feels to pretend you don’t care about someone because your pride just won’t let up.
22.“I guess it's true that love was all you wanted / Cause you're giving it away like it's extra change / Hoping it will end up in his pocket / But he leaves you out like a penny in the rain” –Tied Together With a Smile
All any girl really wants is to love and be loved in return which partially explains why we hand love away to undeserving boys so easily.
23.“You’ve got your share of secrets / And I'm tired of being last to know” –You’re Not Sorry
We’ve all been there. Boys lie. Like a lot. Nine times out of ten you're the last person to find out when those secrets directly affect you.
