Just like any other college, the University of Pittsburgh has a few things that makes your experience as an undergrad unique to that school. If you can relate to a majority of things on this list, odds are you went to Pitt.

1. Sweet Caroline.

You're probably singing this part in your head now.

2. This look when a Freshman says they have extra swipes into Market.

You're going to walk in and immediately remember what Market food actually tastes like, but it's still free food.

3. Trying to figure out the bus system.

What's the difference between inbound and outbound? Wait what side of the street am I supposed to be on? Then, the sudden realization after you get on the bus and notice you're not going where you originally wanted to... so then you have to ask the bus driver how you can fix this without calling an Uber to take you home.

4. Why this happens at football games.

It's just tradition, like Sweet Caroline.

5. Cathy a.k.a. Hogwarts.

You'll never get over the look of shock on everyone's faces when you explain that you have classes in this building.

6. The Nationality Rooms in Cathy.

Yes, some of us have classes in these rooms.

7. The victory lights on Cathy.

Every time you see these lights, you get a feeling of school pride.

8. Antoon's vs. Sorrento's.

...and trying to choose between the two.

9. The workout you get before the gym.

Most times you'll opt for waiting for the 10A, instead of walking up Cardiac hill to reach The Pete. If you do decide to walk once you reach The Pete, you'll look like this.

10. So many free t-shirts.

After your first week on campus, you'll probably have doubled the number of t-shirts that you originally came to campus with.

11. Trying to find seats in Hillman that aren't on a designated quiet floor.

You're forced to ask strangers if you can sit with them– but usually, you get this response.

12. Going home after spring semester before everyone else.

It's great that we get a four-month long summer, but you end up sitting at home like this. Most of your friends will still be gone at college for another two weeks.

13. Still riding school busses to Heinz Field.

Yes, we are in college. Yes, we occasionally ride school buses.

14. The views from Heinz Field.

Not only does our team play in the same stadium as the Pittsburgh Steelers, but we also get these views.

15. The views from Mount Washington.

These kinds of views are only a bus ride away from our school.

16. Free passes to museums.

This is probably a really familiar photo.

17. Having one of the best college radio stations in America.

You probably didn't know this, but in 2015 WPTS Radio Station won a Woodie from mtvU.

18. Looking like this trying to get from The Pete to Lawrence in less than 10 minutes.

19. Then walking into your class like this.

20. Spending 20 minutes just waiting in line in any dining hall after any class.

21. Waiting for Tuesdays

Who doesn't love Therapy Dog Tuesdays?

22. Fall Fest and Bigelow Bash

Free concerts each semester, thanks, Pitt Program Council!

23. Waiting for any opportunity to brag about Pitt.

HAIL TO PITT!!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
