Now that we are coming to a closing of the turbulent year of 2016, what better way to prepare for 2017 by recapping 2016 with the most impacting news of the year and how the news shaped our world in a drastic way.

There is a saying that goes, "the eyes of the past shape the path of the future." Since we are a couple of days away from the closing of the year, it gives us time to sit back and reflect on how important the year of 2016 has been to the entire world.

The Election: The war of Trump vs. Hillary

Probably the most talked about election making record hits on multiple media stations, including daytime shows to nightly news and topping it off with the late night shows that hit millions of views.

Besides all the media portrayals of the debates and the entire presidential race, the election truly proved how divided the nation stands as a whole. The entire length of the presidency campaign showed the needs of the nation. Now that we are about to enter a Trump Presidency, we hope for the best since it is our nation, our America that he will be commanding, yet we empower the government by our votes.

Attacks on Humanity: Shootings in America

Sad to say, violence expressed in a dramatic way through the use of guns has been an issue that has been a key issue of the country's security. According to Gun Violence Archive, there has been a total of 56,837 number of incidents in the year of 2016.

The most striking event of the year in relation to the shootings was the massive shooting of Orlando Club which occurred on June 12, 2016, which had a total of 49 deaths and 53 wounded. Truly the nation has seen an ocean of red, which must find a way to end.

Magic in the Sports World

Every sports fan was on their toes the entire time because of this particular championship; whether it was the Superbowl, the NBA Finals, or even the World Series, the world of Sports truly hit a new level of expectation.

Just as a quick overview; in the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers came back from a 3-1 losing streak over the Golden State Warriors. Lebron and the Cavaliers were able to bring the NBA Championship home to Cleveland.

In baseball, the world series was won by the Chicago Cubs and what truly made this victory special was the length of time since the previous championship was won, which was 1908!

In the NFL, Peyton Manning was able to retire from the Broncos with his final year ending with a Superbowl championship under his belt.

2016 was truly a year that was one of a kind, and one always starts the year never knowing what will happen during the rest of the year. What we do know is what happened in the year before, we know our mistakes and we know our strengths. I hope that everyone truly welcomes 2017 with open arms and says goodbye to 2016, even though it might have been a cruel and difficult year, it has left us the experience to take on a whole new year.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
