20 Things I Forget to Thank My Mom For

Mothers: a word that describes someone who takes care of you, loves you unconditionally and is always going to be in your corner. I love my mom. As I have grown up, I have loved my mom in different ways, but no matter what I have always been (and will forever be!) her little baby girl! Now I am away at college, and I look back and realize that I didn’t thank my mom as much as I should have. Here are 20 things I forgot to thank my mom for while growing up.

1. Thank you for loving me so much

I love you. The love that you have for me spews in over in so many ways. It is like a marshmallow over a warm fire. All warm inside.

2. Thank you for caring

Words cannot describe how much you care for me.

3. Thank you for the notes inside my lunchbox

I don’t think you realize how much that meant to me as a kid, but it always made any bad day better. It was like finding fairy dust in my lunch. Magical love.

4. Thank you for the goodnight kisses

I love your goodnight kisses. I could never sleep well growing up without them, because they brought peace and happiness as I fell asleep.

5. Thank you for listening to me when I need advice

Whenever I needed to talk, you were always there. You always knew what to say to make me feel better and was honest with the truth - even if I didn’t want to hear it.

6. Thank you for being around even when I didn’t want you

Like most young girls, I went through my rough patches. Thank you for sticking it out with me.

7. Thank you for putting me in extracurricular activities

Thank you for putting me in ballet classes, tap classes, choir, acting camps, art camps, and soccer clubs. If I wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have so many interests that I love.

8. Thank you for pushing me to not quit

No matter how much I complained, you knew that I could conquer my fears and improve. Thank you for making me not quit.

9. Thank you for punishing me

Discipline is not bad. Thank you for teaching me that.

10. Thank you for teaching me life lessons

The lessons you have taught me have made such an impact on me - they come back as if they are second nature. Thank you.

11. Thank you for spending hours with me while I worked on homework

Even though I didn’t want your help with my homework, I did love having your company. You are great at cheering me on.

12. Thank you for teaching me to be a great host (like you)

I wouldn’t know how to be a good host if I didn’t learn it from you! My guests and I thank you.

13. Thank you for sticking up for me

When others were against me and tried to put me down, you were always there. Momma Bear protecting her cub. I know you always have my back.

14. Thank you for talking to me about guys, life, and the future

Even though we have had our fair share of awkward conversations, I still treasure our morning drives to school that were spent talking about life. Thank you for answering my ridiculous questions.

15. Thank you for letting me have a puppy

Getting two puppies at one time may have been crazy but they have been one of the biggest blessing in my life. I have loved the journey we have had taking care of them and giving them unconditional love together. Thank you for letting me keep them!

16. Thank you for teaching me how to take care of myself

If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t know how to take care of myself. You have taught me over and over, and I’m glad to say that it finally stuck! I can take care of myself...I may still call you up for help though!

17. Thank you for teaching me how to manage my money

I am so lucky to have a mom who loves talking about numbers. Thank you for spending so much time with me teaching me about how to manage my money and save. So far so good!

18. Thank you for being someone I admire

You may not realize it, but you glow where ever you go. You are beautiful inside and out. I admire you.

19. Thank You for being a strong woman of God

You have shown me what a Proverbs 31 woman looks like. Thank you for being committed to your strong relationship with the Lord. I desire to adore and worship the Lord like you do!

20. Lastly, Thank you for being my best friend!

You are my Gilmore girl! I don’t know what I would do without you! You are my best friend and no one can replace that!

Love, your baby girl

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
