York, Nebraska is the hot spot for people travelling across Nebraska. With the interstate and two major highways connecting in town, York gets a lot of business. Nevertheless, York is great supporters of each other and activities that the youth is involved in. Though there may not be a lot of do here, people make their own fun with what they have. Now here are 20 things people in York, Nebraska say during the summer...

1. "Want to go to DQ?"

Blizzards. Dilly Bars. Banana Splits. Need I say more?

2. "We need to roadtrip."

The infamous "we need to do something amazing this summer" which never happens.

3. "It's supposed to storm tonight!"

All of the amateur storm chasers in town always get so excited when stormy weather comes during the summer. (Picture: tornado was on May 29, 2013 near the interstate in the field)

4. "Wait...just kidding."

Disappointing every time.

5. "Let's go to the lake and watch the sunset."

Granted, most people go to the lake out of town. Recharge does fulfill the "I want to watch the sunset by the lake" feeling.

6. "I have to work."

Detasseling, babysitting, and fast food are probably the most common jobs around town.

7. "I saw [insert name here] at Walmart the other day."

You can't get in and out of Walmart without seeing at least 5 people you know.

8. "Are [insert name here] and [insert another name here] still dating?"

Summer seems to break people up? Guess it wasn't meant to be for them.

9. "Let's get coffee at Redbeards."

Greatest coffee place in town.

10. "I'm camping"

75% of the town goes camping at least once during the summer it seems like.

11. "Hey, it's finally storming!"

Rain and thunder are the most exciting things.

12. *waits an hour* "Dang the bad stuff always splits to go around us."

Ugh.

13. "Let's go to the pool."

For those of you who don't go to the pool for work, how do you not get tired of the splashing children around you?

14. "Firecracker Frenzy is tonight!"

This event on July 3 always attracts the whole town and those surrounding.

15. "Want to go to the baseball game?"

Legion baseball is always a fan favorite.

16. "Do you know what's going on across town?"

Small towns means news spreads fast.

17. "Let's go to Lincoln soon."

The nice thing about York being 45 minutes from Lincoln and Grand Island, there's always more things to do.

18. "I can't. I'm going on vacation."

Whenever your friends try to plan something extraordinary, but family commitments get in the way.

19. "Are you hunting for the medallion this year?"

Pirate Jim is offering $1500 this year for whoever finds the medallion this year. Family fun for everyone

20. "Summer went by too fast."

Got to make more memories next summer

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
