That time of year is rapidly approaching us again.

You know the one; the time where we make huge resolutions for the year that we hardly ever hold up to. Maybe this year, we should take baby steps, instead of one giant leap.

So here are some resolutions to try out this coming year that you may just be able to stick to.

1. Do something out of your comfort zone

What's great about this is that you can make it as easy or difficult as you want! Whether it's trying a new food or jumping out of an airplane, you're sure to be able to do it.

2. Take the stairs

Not quite ready to commit to a full workout routine? Here's a simple change you can make to ease into that direction.

3. Make more phone calls

Texting isn't very personal. Try making phone calls when you can, it's a lot more meaningful, trust me.

4. Get ahead of the game

Plan birthday and holiday cards and gifts ahead of time. You'll feel so much better when you're not scrambling at the last minute.

5. Give a compliment once a day

But don't just spew out compliments that you don't really mean.

6. Eat out less

Not only will it save money, but you can also ensure that you're eating healthy.

7. Have more gatherings

Make time to have friends and family over once a month and make memories.

8. Only use credit cards for emergencies

Start only spending the cash you carry. This will keep you from spending money willy-nilly.

9. Write letters

Write a handwritten letter to someone special once a month.

10. Stop depending on your phone

Even if you're sitting by yourself. Take in your surrounding, people watch; enjoy the moment.

11. Wake up earlier

Instead of rushing out the door, make time to enjoy breakfast or a cup of coffee.

12. Start using SPF...everyday!

Work a sunscreen or SPF moisturizer into your everyday routine.

13. Read a new book

Start setting aside time every day to start reading all those books on your reading list.

14. Eat out by yourself

For some reason, a lot of people have issues doing this. But trust me, there's power in knowing that you don't need someone with you at all times.

15. Refrain from gossiping

You'll be a lot more trustworthy and won't feel as stressed.

16. Be more open

Communicate your thoughts and feelings to others. You'll feel better about yourself and will likely be more respected.

17. Quit the late-night snacking

This will benefit your health greatly.

18. Give yourself more credit

Instead of focusing on mistakes, focus on improvement.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
