Whether we like to admit it or not, we are getting old. Each year seems to fly by faster than the last. With so much part of our daily routines to prepare us for the real world such as classes, work, and bills, it is comforting to familiarize ourselves with a childhood favorite. However, familiarizing ourselves with childhood photos, movies, shows, candies, etc. can also make us realize how much time has gone by. Here are several ways you know you are getting old:
1. You watched your favorite childhood movie and looked at the date of release.
2. You watched a movie your parents let you watch when you were little, except this time you actually understood the movie.
3. You like the shows your parents used to watch when you were young (which you originally hated) – game shows like "Family Feud" or "Wheel of Fortune," cooking shows or HGTV shows about home-style living, or talk shows such as "Doctor Phil" or "Ellen DeGeneres" (how dare we for ever not loving her!)
4. You go shopping and have to put down everything you pick up because you have to watch your bank account.
5. Weekly chores become daily routines.
6. After a long day, you look forward to wine.
7. Robes and slippers become a part of your daily wardrobe.
8. The amount of real friends you have has declined significantly.
9. Some of your favorite jams are the music your parents used to make you listen to on long car rides.
10. Every time a 90s/00s show comes on, like "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," "That’s So Raven," or "Kenan & Kel," you have to watch them.
11. Your favorite SpongeBob episodes are the old ones.
12. When you turn on Disney channel, you have no idea what any of the shows are.
13. If you’re in a relationship, people assume your married and/or have children.
14. You realize that at this point in time, your grandparents were already married.
15. You know someone who is either engaged, married, or has kids, which means you aren’t too far behind.
16. You can’t eat like you used to when you were a kid.
17. You visit your old high school or team and realize you don’t know anyone.
Depressed? Me too. Don’t worry though; you’re not alone. Just because we are getting older does not mean we are old. We are young with much time ahead of us, but time is a very precious gift. This is exactly why family members have always told us to enjoy the time we have when we do something we love. Take advantage of the time you have on this earth and make every day count full of wonderful memories doing the things you love with the people you love.
