17 Signs You're From Kaufman, Texas

Kaufman, Texas. The hometown that we all love to hate, but mostly love. Sure you can't wait to get out, but as soon as you're gone, you miss what you had before. Your best friends living a short drive away and not crying from your homework. Kaufman is the epitome of a small, country, Texas town and you can easily miss it even though we're now really on the map since our Walmart opened last year. Being from Kaufman is undeniable and here are something's that we can all relate to.

1. When people ask where you're from you always respond, "Kaufman, it's 40 minutes southeast of Dallas. You probably don't know where it is."

Because let's be honest, not even people from Dallas know where Kaufman is.

2. And when someone tells you they know where Kaufman is, you're surprised.

3. Going to Brookshire's or Walmart is a social event because you always see people you know there.

4. We like to brag that our football stadium and Dairy Queen were in a movie one time.

5. But then you add that the Dairy Queen is now shut down for not passing a health inspection.

6. You would have thought they opened an amusement park when our Walmart opened given how people would just walk around and hang out. In Walmart.

7. There seem to be only four options for college although a few of us do venture beyond the usual.

8. Kaufman Donuts are definitely the best donuts ever.

9. If you graduated class of 2014 and before, you're probably bitter that you never got to paint your parking spot.

10. Getting yelled at in the hallways to tuck your shirt in.

11. You probably hate even hearing the name "Crandall."

12. Realizing they raised the speed limit on 175 to Dallas up to 70 was a great day.

13. Little Mexico breakfast burritos. Need I say more?

14. For Halloween every year, Houston street is the place to be. No matter how old you get and if you start passing candy out instead of taking it, Houston street.

15. The whole town knows your business before you even know your own business.

16. The stop signs where the 175 frontage roads and Houston street cross is one of the biggest nightmares during the school year. (This is basically what it feels like.)

17. And no matter, you'll always remember the school song.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
