School is out for the summer, and what better way to spend the extra free time than watching movies with friends and family? Summer is typically known to be a time when big-hit movies are released, and this year isn't any different. There are many exciting movies coming out in the summer of 2017, many of which have already been released. This is my compiled list of sixteen summer blockbusters I am dying to see.
1. "Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2"
This is one of two films on this list that I have already seen, and it was an amazing sequel full of loveable new character stories, plot twists, and lots of jokes. This film hit theaters on the fifth of May.
2. "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword"
I have heard mixed reviews about this King Arthur retelling, which was released May 12th, but honestly I'm down for any movie about King Arthur so I'm still dying to check it out.
3. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales"
This was one of my more highly anticipated releases for the summer, as "Pirates of the Caribbean" has always been one of my favorite movie series. This film came out on May 26th, and I can't wait to finally see it.
4. "Wonder Woman"
Though I am admittedly more of a Marvel fan, I am still here for this Wonder Woman origin story that came to the big screens on the second of June.
5. "It Comes At Night"
This new summer horror film is said to be taking an interesting approach to the genre. Though I am not usually a big fan of horror movies, this one seems too unique and dramatic to pass up. This movie was released on the ninth of June.
6. "The Mummy"
This summer blockbuster hit theaters on the ninth of June, and I have already gone to see it. There were some harsh reviews from critics on this movie, but it was definitely still enjoyable and promising.
7. "The Big Sick"
Hitting theaters June 23rd, this romantic comedy follows the true story of a couple who struggles to deal with their cultural differences.
8. "Baby Driver"
You had me at Ansel Elgort. We haven't really seen anything big out of Elgort since the release of TFIOS and the Divergent series, but this movie makes me so excited for more. Also, he stars as a heist getaway driver, and what more could you ask for in a summer action film? This hits theatres June 28th.
9. "Spider-Man: Homecoming"
Set to release on the seventh of July, this reboot of Spider-Man has so much hype surrounding it. Though he is my favorite super-hero, I am still ride or die for the original series, so I'm not sure how much I will enjoy watching yet another new actor play the neighborhood Spider-Man.
10. "War for the Planet of the Apes"
This is it. This is one of, if not my most anticipated summer release. Hitting theaters on July 14th, this is a continuation of one of my favorite movie series of all time. I cannot wait for this.
11. "Dunkirk"
"Dunkirk", another film following the harrowing war stories of WWII, is set to release on July 21st, and is one that I am very excited to see. I will never pass up a WWII film. Never.
12. "Atomic Blonde"
Coming to the big screen on July 28th, this new Charlize Theron movie looks to be action-packed, and is something you don't want to miss this summer.
13. "The Dark Tower"
Based on the book series by none other than Stephen King, this movie follows The Gunslinger, a man roaming the Old West searching for the Man in Black, and the Dark Tower. This movie comes out on the fourth of August, and looks amazing. In true book-junkie fashion, I just might have to check out the series in preparation for this one.
14. "Detroit"
Also set for release on the fourth of August, this movie follows such a pivotal time in history, and one that is very rarely talked about. This is one of the more important, and educational, movies that you don't want to miss this year.
15. "Wind River"
If you haven't heard of this movie yet, go check out the trailer. This summer thriller follows a "murder" mystery set on a Native American reservation. I'm sold. This movie will be released on the fourth of August.
16. "Annabelle: Creation"
For all the horror junkies out there, this one is for you. I personally still haven't seen the first Annabelle movie, but this definitely gives me the excuse to do so. Check this movie out in theaters on August 11th.
