Yay! I’m back home and done with school! No more classes! First semester done! Relaxing for a month! And look, my family is excited to see me, and Mom is making me real food! All my friends are excited to see me too, and I have all the time in the world to catch up on sleep and have fun!
Christmas! I get to see more of my family! I get money!
New Years! I’m with my friends, staying up late because I can get up late! I have eaten all the foods I have missed, and I still have almost a month left of this luxury! Keep it coming!
WHAT, NOW??
Yep, it is happening. We have hit the end of the excitement wall. Christmas and New Year's are gone and not returning for a while, we have caught up with our hometown friends, our family is now starting to get on our nerves, we have nothing to do because we have done it these past couple weeks, and we cannot help the strange feeling of wanting to go back to college already. I know, it is something we didn’t expect. Who would pass down a month of no stress? I wouldn’t, and whoever raised their hands to that question are lying to themselves! However, it is happening. We want to return to our other home. We miss it.
Here are the 15 reasons why it is time to go back to college.
1. You went back for the holidays. They’re over. We had so much fun on Christmas and New Years, so what is left, now? The aftermath of fun is all that remains.
2. The family room couch is your party pad. You are caught up on sleep, but find yourself too lazy to leave your favorite spot in front of the TV. At school, you would have something to do, someone to get you moving, but there is nothing but your will. Your will is lazy at home.
3. Your hometown is still boring. Yep, that has not changed a bit. You did everything in town you could, and you still have a month of "festivities." At least there are activities at school.
4. You have seen all our old friends. And your old enemies. And people you have already forgotten. Seeing friends is cool no matter what. Seeing enemies makes you miss school, where everyone is chill, and who was that person? You have never seen them before!
5. You have binged watched all the shows you started. Yeah, you have more time to binge watch more, but it's not as exiting watching shows with an abundance of time. Having fun with bingeing is knowing you have a paper due, but you are willing to cram another episode out. That's fun. That's fulfilling.
6. You need freedom again! Mom and Dad are starting to irritate you, and you can't just hang up the phone! You need to be with your friends and just have fun -- as far away as possible.
7. You have money and nothing to spend it on. You can always go to the mall, but isn't it better to spend it on pizza? Or wings? Or any late night order?
8. The Domino’s diet is gone. You didn't know how much you would miss it until you didn't get it every weekend (and occasional weekdays). Let's all bow our heads for a moment of silence...
9. You Skyped your college friends and it hurt deeply. You were so happy to see them, but they are through a computer! You can't see them for a couple more weeks! Skype is such a tease!
10. You start to act like your old self, and that is not a good thing. Whether is be commenting on town scandals, picking up bad habits, or going back to your high school every day, please stop. You have changed into an adult (or sort of one), so do you really want to be a kid again?
11. You realize that your family cannot amount to your roommates. You also see that your roommates are your family. Your family does not understand your new schedule, and does not communicate the same way you and your roomies did. They seem to understand you more, now. They understand the changing you.
12. You miss the late nights of actually having a life. Sometimes it would be a random week night and you would go hang out in another friend's dorm. Or they would come hang out with you. It was simple. It was nice. When you are home, those simple nights disappear into planning to hang out.
13. You can’t walk anywhere. You loved having a car when you got back, but what's easier: walking five minutes to the dining hall, or driving twenty to a restaurant? Would you rather walk downstairs to see your friends, or drive ten minutes? Surprisingly, you just wish you could walk somewhere.
14. You have no more problems, and that is sometimes stressful. There are no tests, no drama, and you are fully rested. Something in you hates it because it is so peaceful that you are bored. Then you start overthinking why you are bored, and you start looking for problems... wow, we need some craziness in our home lives.
15. You miss your new home. Yeah, in those couple months, your college has become the place that understand you best. You have made new and amazing friends, you are fully immersed in campus life, and you are happy. Something about your real home is off putting, and you cannot wait to go back to the new one.
I like a long vacation just like anyone else. I have never been so relaxed. I have also never been so bored, and when my new friends text me, or I think about the memories made during my first semester, or what I would be doing right now if was in school, I realize that my college is now a part of me. It’s my future. Where I am spending this vacation is my past. I still like vacations, but I like home more.
