9 Things About Rush

Sarcastically told by the Recruitment Chair

9 Things About Rush

1. None of your members ever want to be there.

Even the recruitment chair dislikes formal recruitment.

2. You start to sound like a broken record.

It starts to seem like everyone was a high-school star in some way or another, but you have to treat each of their stories like it triggered an authentic rise in Oxytocin levels.

After a while, everyone around you sound like broken records.  Common responses heard during rush are : "awesome", "wow", "you are too funny, seriously", "that's amazing", "tell me more",etc.

3. The campus representatives think everything you do or say is suspicious.

I know they're just doing their jobs and looking out for anything and everything, but c'mon.  Maybe that bedroom is locked because the person is legitimately out of town, we don't hide meth labs in any old room.

4. Some PNMs don't know how to keep a conversation.

And you can't really blame them, rush is boring for everyone.  Hours of human interaction and people trying to one-up each other.

5. Sometimes your own members don't even know what to say.

Sorry buddy, I don't think they want to hear about how you just got dumped, but for the love of god say something to them.

6. You've gone through every fact you know of your house and yet they still want to know more.

It's like I have a checklist of things to say: our philanthropy, our house, our members, our activities, our involvement, our GPA (nevermind not that), parties, sports, politics, weather, well that's all I got.

and yet they keep asking you more.

7. You've asked the PNM everything you want and didn't want to know.

...and they keep telling you even more about them.  I am sincerely happy for you that you ran a 2 minute mile in high-school, hell that's how long it takes me to tie my shoes.  Oh you have a pet rabbit you sneaked into your dorm, please tell me all about him and all of his eating habits.  Maybe next time try using the few hours you have to find a house to talk about your ambitions, potential, and other things you can bring to the table.

8. At the end of it you still feel like you barely know a thing about these kids.

...besides where they're from.  Mostly because that's the only useful information you got out of these kids.  Might as well just ask them "where are you from buddy?" and then show them how cool your door looks when it's closing...from outside.

9. They leave barely know anything about your house.

...aside from how to pronounce the Greek letters on your house and what your upcoming philanthropy is.  Why would they, you were probably like me and just kept checking the time.  At least we tried to tell them about our house.  Eh, I'm sure they liked us.

beer on the beach

Summer is hot and humid, and it's almost like summer was made specifically to drink the refreshing, cold, crisp wonderful, delicious, nutritious nectar of the gods. Which is none other than beer; wonderful cold beer. With summer playing peek-a-boo around the corner while we finish up this semester, it's time to discuss the only important part of summer. And if you haven't already guessed, it's beer. There are few things I take more seriously than my beer, in order are: sports... and beer. Here are my favorite summer brews:

Bruce Springsteen's Top 7 Lyrics

Everything Bruce says in his classic rock songs.

bruce springsteen album cover born in the usa

Anyone who was born and raised in New Jersey (or anywhere really) knows of Bruce Springsteen, whether or not they like him is a whole other situation. I hope that his hundreds of classic rock songs and famous high energy performances, even in his sixties he can put on better concerts than people half his age, are at least recognizable to people of all ages. Love him or hate him (I identify with the former) you have to admit that some of his songs and interviews have inspirational quotes and lyrics.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

3083
Marconi Beach

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.
