Have you ever thought about how much you really need to bring to college or what you need to leave back at home? I'm here to help you narrow it down.
Here are 12 things you need to leave behind when you head off to start your new journey:
1. Toxic friends.
When moving somewhere new, you need to re-evaluate who you have in your life. It's a natural thing to lose friends, but it's a blessing to lose those who no longer serve their purpose in your life.
2. People who do not support you.
This one is such a biggie. People who don't support you do not deserve a place in your life, let alone a place in your heart. Cut it off, girl.
3. Uggs.
Seriously. Just don't bring them.
4. Drama.
No one wants anymore bull crap than they have to deal with. Leave it at home, or better yet, leave it in high school!
5. High school achievements.
No one cares if you were captain of the cheer team or if you won a decathlon. It's in the past. Keep it there.
6. Fairy lights.
Most dorms don't allow these anyway due to fire hazards. Save yourself a couple of bucks and skip out on the fairy lights. I know, I know. They're adorable, but totally not worth it.
7. Your old self.
College is a perfect place to start over. If you haven't been feelin' yourself, switch it up! You're in a brand new place where no one knows your name or what you've been through.
If you wanna change up how you do things, now is the perfect time, and when old people hit you up, just reply with "new phone, who dis?"
8. An excessive amount of clothes.
Yes, you're going to want to bring all of your clothes, no you will not wear them all. Limit it to things you know you'll need and then add in a few nice things for every once in a while.
9. Your library.
You will not read them all. They take up space and collect dust. Just bring two of your favorites.
10. A ton of decorations.
I know dorms look like prison cells sometimes, but come on. Is it really worth spending all of the money on decor when you're going to have to lug all of it out again next year?
11. Bad study habits.
It's so hard to get back in the groove, but you have to. Just sit down and push through it. You've got this.
12. People who are stuck in the 'high school' phase of their life.
This may be the biggest point in this article. If you have friends who are stuck doing the same old boring things, complaining about the mediocre lifestyle they're living, or constantly whining about pointless drama, drop them.
They're draining and you'll wish you did if you decide not to.
Some people just peak in high school, and some people's biggest achievements in life will be making the cheer team, making all-state choir, or simply becoming a drum major.
If that is all these people are doing with their lives, drop the weight and spread your wings. Some people only have a limited time frame in your life. Those who really matter will always be there.
