12 Classical Songs To Help You Get Through Midterms

Midterms -- the time of the semester where everyone is stressed, about to lose their minds, and have exam after paper after exam. It can be hard to stay focused when there is so much going on, and stress levels are high. However, a way to push through that and calm down is to listen to classical music. Here is a list of 12 classical songs to help you relax and focus while studying:

1. "Debut" -- Melanie Laurent

This is one of my favorite (if not favorite) piano pieces. French artist Melanie Laurent, makes you feel some type of way that can help you calm down.

2. "Piano sonata No.12 in F, K.332:2. Adagio" -- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

3. "Beethoven's 5 Secrets" -- The Piano Guys

You may recognize the first half of this song as the music to One Republic's "Secrets." If you get distracted by singing, then this version will help you focus.

4. "He's a Pirate" -- Klaus Badelt

If you're looking for an instrumental song to pump you up when you're in a study slump, then this is the one. And even better, here is a 14-minute extended version.

5. "Piano sonata No.14 in C-Sharp minor, Op.27, No.2, 'Moonlight': I. 'Adagio sostenuto'
-- Ludwig van Beethoven, Jeno Jando

And in case you can't get enough of Beethoven, here's the full version of "Moonlight Sonata."

6. "The Cello Song" -- The Piano Guys

An upbeat twist to Bach's "Unaccompanied Cello Suite No.1: Prelude" that will brighten your mood after hours of studying.

7. "Claire de Lune" -- Claude Debussy

This is probably one of the most well-known classical songs that will help you relax right before you take an exam.

8. "River Flows in You" -- Yiruma

This is probably my second favorite piano piece following Melanie Laurent's "Debut." It's hard to put into words how peaceful and beautiful this song is.

9. "The Mission: Gabriel's Oboe" -- Ennio Morricone, Yo-Yo Ma, Roma Sinfonietta

10. "Lord of the Rings" -- Howard Shore, Philipps Jane Boyens, The Piano Guys

Not necessarily a classic but an epic instrumental that encompasses music from all of the
"Lord of the Rings" films.

11. "Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise brillante in E flat, Op.22: Andante Spianato. Tranquillo." -- Frederic Chopin

12. "Come Sail Away" -- Styx -- Covered by: Donald Gould

Okay, so this may not be a classical song, but it's a rock classic. This video of a homeless man, Donald Gould, went viral after a woman captured a beautiful moment of him performing on the main streets of Sarasota, Fla.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
