11 Things You Know Are True If You've Vacationed On Cape Cod

If you've ever vacationed on Cape Cod you know that its almost like a different world. There's something about Cape Cod that makes everyone seem to fall in love with it. There's always something to do, lay out on the beach, kayaking, whale watching, the list goes on and on. Here's just a few things that anyone who has vacationed on Cape Cod knows to be true.

1. You know that its "on the Cape" not "in the Cape."

You've probably made this mistake once and were quickly shut down by some of the locals and have since vowed never to make that mistake again.

2. If you don't have the New England clam chowder you feel guilty.

Done correctly this chowder is simply to die for and thankfully its on practically every restaurant's menu. Any trip to Cape Cod is sure to feature New England clam chowder.

3. Same goes for the lobster and scallops.

Cape Cod is every seafood lovers dream, there's cod, clams, scallops, and especially lobster. Lobster dipped in butter is out of this world on the Cape.

4. While we're on the topic of food, ice cream here is no joke.

There's no shortage of ice cream places on Cape Cod and we're so thankful for this. There's always some place to go for ice cream and everyone has their favorite, go-to place.

5. Whale and seal watching trips aren't out of the ordinary.

Watching the seals swim around the ocean in Chatham is adorable and if you want to see some truly spectacular sites catch a boat out of Hyannis or Provincetown to see some humpback whales.

6. The people of Cape Cod take their baseball very seriously.

You've learned to keep your mouth closed when it comes to baseball because people here are very loyal to their favorite Cape league baseball team.

7. You know that you need to pack summer and winter clothes.

While the daytime can get extremely hot the nighttime can drop to low temperatures so while you may have been wearing a bathing suit earlier you're going to need that sweatshirt later.

8. You know that people dress very preppy here.

This is especially applicable to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket but people throughout the Cape seem to be wearing polos and Sperry shoes.

9. The ocean water can be a bit...chilly.

The ocean along the Cape is not for the people who long for the tropical temperatures because the water here is on the chillier side. But the positive side is is that its definitely refreshing after laying out in the hot sun all afternoon!

10. You have a deep love for Cape Cod potato chips.

These chips are addictive and you seriously question anyone who doesn't like Cape Cod potato chips.

11. You vow to return every year.

There's something magical about Cape Cod that makes people return year after year. Maybe its the people, the food, the beach, what have you, Cape Cod is a special place and a great place to vacation.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
