Being an artist is so much fun. The possibilities for what you can create are endless. But, like most hobbies and passions, they can be messy and a struggle at times. If you're an artist, I'm sure you relate to these 11 struggles:

1. Getting led on the side of your hand

Oh yeah, that sketch is coming out pretty rad but your pencil needs to be sharpened. You check out the damage done and your pencil isn't the only thing damaged. BOOM! You have led all down your arm. So you just sit there and think, “is this the black parade that Gerard Way was telling us about?”

2. Getting gunk under your nails

Uck. Just uck. Yeah, it feels normal after a while when you're working on your project, but when you lift up your fingers and see gunk under your nails, you can't help but want to SCRUB. IT. OFF! Although you know you're acting like a creepy monster and talking in a deep crackly voice saying things like, “my pretty!" when no one else is around to see.

3. The eraser that makes things worse

Looks like "My Chemical Romance" threw up everywhere again. It happens something like this: “Oops. Well, I'll just fix it with my eraser here and... oh no. NO. NOOOO!!! WHYYYYY???!!!!”

4. Freebies

No, I cannot draw you and chances are I'm already working on something as you beg me to draw something else. Your please isn't pretty and we never referred to each other as best friends before. Please STOP begging me.

5. Artist's block

I have all this energy to be creative but WHAT IN THE WORLD DO I WANT TO CREATE?! Honestly, where are the freebies when you need em?

6. Wax sticks

We all bought that really awesome looking art set with over fifty pieces but, when you test it out, BOOM! You find out that you have nothing to show for the money spent on this kit. But hey, at least it looks nice, right...right?

7. People that use the yellow marker as a highlighter

Please don't be this person. There is nothing worse than a yellow marker with a black streak in it. It could make a piece of art go from hero to zero just like that.

8.Game plans

Sometimes you have a design planned and it ends up not coming out as planned. So why even plan a design in the first place?

9. Backseat drivers

These are the people that look over your shoulder and give feedback as you design. Although constructive criticism is good, it's really annoying and it goes by the term “project creep.” Just let the artist do their thing and critique it later.

10. Copycats

We all know a kid that would sit in art class and ask people what they're doing for their project, and as an artist, this can bug you more than anything. Why can't they just come up with a design themselves? Nah they would rather look over your shoulder and get "inspiration."

11. Finding out you're on the wrong layer

This is for the graphic designers out there. It can be nerve racking to finish a complicated step and then find out it's on the wrong layer. Even though you know it takes .2 seconds to copy and paste it to another layer it's just- UGHHH!!!

If you are an artist and you deal with these problems, then I understand your struggle. But, we shall overcome these struggles one layer at a time.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

Yes, the math major is doing a math-related post. What are the odds? I'll have to calculate it later. Many people have probably learned about the Fibonacci sequence in their high school math classes. However, I thought I would just refresh everyone's memories and show how math can be beautiful and apply to physical things everywhere around us with stunning examples.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
