11 Stages Of Missing Your Dogs As Told By "Friends"

Going off to college is great. We begin our independent lives and submerge into a completely new surrounding, which brings us endless benefits. Nonetheless, it is inevitable that you will miss some parts of your life back home. Whether it is your friends or your family, everyone has their own baggage. For me, and I'm sure that I'm not the only one, it's my three playful best friends.

1. First realizing that you won’t be able to see them every day:

Learning to accept this was very difficult. I am sure that you even shortly considered staying home for college in lieu of having to give them up.

2. The day when you actually have to say goodbye to them:

Friends and family are important and all, but this was definitely the hardest goodbye.

3. You find yourself reminiscing about the times when you lived with them.

You've admitted that you would give up a night out at midtown in a heartbeat just to get to play with them.

4. When you're feeling lonely and missing them:

Dogs are better than people, am I right?

5. You're doing your best to forget them, but find yourself scrolling through pictures of dogs on the Internet.

It is way too easy to give into the temptation.

6. When you start fostering animals all of the time:

Your roommates probably want to kill you during this step. Regardless, it brings you temporary happiness.

7. When you realize that you want a permanent pet, but know that you don’t have the time or money to get one:

If you're as busy as me, college is probably not the best time to have a dog. However, this doesn't change your mind completely.

8. When you get random animals that fit your time needs better, but it’s just not the same:

Whether you have gotten hamsters, fish, or cats, nothing compares.

9. When you're counting down the days until you get to see them again:

If your school is close to your hometown, you probably go home as much as I do. Your dogs are the real reason for your home visit, am I right?

10. When you finally arrive at your house, they are the first ones who you say hi to.

Sorry, mom and dad.

11. Then you realize that you have to leave them again and the whole cycle restarts.

It never ends and it definitely does not get easier.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
