11 Reasons Why I Love Bowling Green State University

Bowling Green State University is the school that I love. This is my home. My friends are here, my education is here, and, honestly, my life is here. I adore this school and I adore the city of Bowling Green. There are so many good things to say about this school, but 11 things in particular stick out to me as a BGSU student.

1. The Beautiful Campus

Bowling Green is a gorgeous city and located in that city is an even more gorgeous campus. Yeah, sometimes the weather will get to you, but nothing beats a warm and sunny spring day on campus. Whether you're walking to class or sitting on a bench to enjoy the sights, BGSU is a nice, small campus with gorgeous scenes wherever you are.

2. The Awesome Mascots And Spirit Squad

Freddie and Frieda are always the happiest birds that they can be. Whether you see them at the hockey game or even just walking around campus, they can always make your day better. We can be honest here, SicSic can be a little creepy at times, but after they toss a few Laffy Taffies your way and spark up a conversation, you realize that they're actually pretty cool!

3. The Bread Sticks

Not one thing can be said about BGSU without mentioning the Campus Polleye's stuffed bread sticks. These are a gift from heaven. They can be stuffed with just about any pizza topping that you can imagine and they're served with any dipping sauce that you can dream up (although I recommend the ranch). You're not a true BGSU student if you haven't had these bread sticks at least once.

4. The Metamorphosis Rock

Let's be honest, you've taken 10 or more pictures here, right? If you're a BGSU student, you just have to.

5. The Battle Of I-75

This is one of the most fun traditions, because nothing is more fun than a rivalry with a school who we despise so much. The result may not always come out in our favor, but we make it work.

6. "Who's He? Nobody!"

Hockey is a huge tradition at BGSU. There is nothing like shouting, "Who's he? Nobody!" while the other team is getting introduced. The Bleacher Creatures are always making sure that the crowd is pumped up and they make the games a ton more fun! The atmosphere at those games are so much fun and, of course, it gets rowdy when the Falcons take a win.

7. The Downtown Nightlife

No matter what you want your weekend to consist of, we have a spot for you. Bowling? We've got it. Movie? We've got it. Drinking? We've definitely got that. Dancing? Got it. Karaoke? Got it. You get it. Downtown has an abundance of bars, which means that there's something there for everyone!

8. The People

Whether you're talking about Bible Bob or the person who you met last week at Taco Bell, the people in this city are awesome. There is a diverse population and there are people for everyone. People are so nice and they're a lot of fun! Of course, like any place, we have the people who everyone knows: Bible Bob, Boombox Guy, etc. If you're a BGSU student or an alum, I'm sure that you know who I'm talking about.

9. The House Parties

Speaking of the people, the parties that those people throw are pretty cool too. BGSU knows how to party and house parties are no exception. You meet some cool people, play some intense games, and listen to some good music. BGSU is the place to be on the weekend, just ask anybody.

10. The Cookie Jar

No talk about BGSU is complete without mentioning The Cookie Jar. This is a Bowling Green staple. They have all of the best cookie flavors, along with a cookie of the day. They are delivered straight out of the oven and there is no better treat for a college kid.

11. The Life-Saving Activities (Literally)

From Dance Marathon to Relay for Life, BGSU has some fun things for students to participate in for a good cause. Whether you're dancing all night and day for the kids or even walking all night to raise money for cancer research, students love to participate in these things. We raise money and participate all day or night in these fun fundraisers. What's not to love about spending time with friends while making new friends all for a good cause?

Bowling Green State University is my home away from home and I wouldn't have it any other way. This place is full of fun things to do. There is always a good atmosphere, no matter where you are. Athletics, academics, and extra-curricular activities make me proud to be a falcon. #WeAreBG

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
