11 Reasons To Be Excited About School Starting

I don't like summer. This is for a number of reasons but one of the largest is that I don't have enough to do. I like to keep busy and have projects and activities to work on. Sure, school work can be stressful and once I'm doing homework non-stop I might not be as grateful, but here are 11 reasons why I can't wait to be back at school.

1. There's always something to do

Like I said, I like to keep busy. At school, there's always something to do, academic or not.

2. Getting to see friends again

As an out-of-state student, I don't get to hang out with my school friends over the summer. It's nice to get back to school and catch up with what I've missed over the summer.

3. New classes and more learning

I always get excited to start brand new classes, and after summer, I'm always more than happy to be learning new material/ideas.

4. Doing something different

I live in a small town but go to school in St. Paul, so going back to school means a change of pace. I get to go to the St. Paul Farmer's Market or spend some time in Minneapolis. Plus, being back at school means being by all my favorite coffee shops.

5. Moving in the first day

Decorating dorm rooms the first day back is fun. Living in dorms, not so much. But making a space your own, makes the gross communal bathrooms worth it. It's the chance to feel like you have your own HGTV show.

6. Having a set schedule

While schedules can be monotonous, it's also nice to know what you have to do in a day and know when you're able to fit everything else in. You're even more appreciative of the free time you have when there's less of it.

7. Going school supply shopping

Getting new school supplies has always been my favorite part of the school year. I love the empty notebooks, the new pens and the big stack of sticky notes.

8. Having an on-campus gym

I genuinely do enjoy working out. It's just that summer is too hot to go outside and run (or maybe that's just be making excuses), and I'm not about to go and buy a gym membership. Being back at school means having a gym right on campus that you can walk to after eating too much pizza.

9. Movie marathons with friends

Last semester, my friends and I watched all of the "Lord of the Rings" movies, and it was great. Being back at school means getting together when everyone has a chance, winding down after a hectic week, and enjoying some movies together.

10. Having a fresh start

Odds are, you have new professors this semester, and some new people in your classes. You get an entirely new school year to do what you want to do.

11. It means fall is just around the corner

I live for fall, and the beginning of the semester means the time for sweaters and heavy cardigans is approaching. What could be better?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
