10 Ways You Knew You Were A Scene Kid in the 2000s

Bows and tutus and studded belts, oh my!

We were our own strange kind of culture. We somehow mixed a love for all things adorable and cute with the dark and grim. There was nothing wrong with accessorizing Emily the Strange with a pink tutu. Everything just felt right about it. The culture may have all but died after Myspace fell off the map, but true scene kids will never forget who we used to be.

1. You owned Hello Kitty everything

Nothing like accesorizing a Hello Kitty hairbow with a Hello Kitty necklace on top of a Hello Kitty t-shirt. She's adorable, why not?

2. You often listened to Blood on the Dance Floor and Brokencyde

We knew it wasn't appropriate enough to get away with listening to in our rooms, so we had to blare the strange beats in our headphones, hoping our parents never overheard the risque lyrics to "Yellow Bus" or "Candyland."

3. You remember pre-makeup Jeffree Star

Myspace goddess, music queen, controversial as ever, Jeffree was a memorable personality even before he became a makeup entrepreuner. Lolipop Luxury was totally our jam.

4. You had a busy collage as a background to your Myspace layout

You just weren't a true scene kid if your Myspace layout didn't come with a seizure warning. Hello Kitty, brass knuckles, Domo, hearts...it all made sense. It was your self expression.

5. You made someone a sign
You weren't true friends unless you wrote your best friend's name on your hand or a paper.
Bonus: (I would be lying if I told you I wasn't featured on scenequeens.com when I was sixteen!)

6. You have a least one photo with a "rawr" pose

We all did it. For some reason. No one really remembers why.

7. Stickam rings a bell
Stickam was the best place to gain a following. Before we could Snapchat or go Facebook Live, we were gifted Stickam, where all of our favorite bands broadcasted, and millions of strangers could stare at us doing literally nothing.

8. Your bow collection was out of this world

Big bows, mini bows, jumbo bows. They weren't just for toddlers anymore.

9. You had teased, razor cut hair
But growing out all of them layers after we were out of our scene phase sure was tricky.

10. Two words: Fer sure. You know what I am talking about.

The scene may be dead, but in our hearts, we can never lose who we once were. Keep calm, and rawr on.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
