10 Things To Do Before Starting Spring Semester

It's time to face reality again!

As sad as it is, spring semester has arrived at last and it's time to go back to college. Even though none of us are really ready yet, a new semester means there are a lot of new tasks that need to be done. If you haven't made a list and don't know where to start yet, here are 10 things to do before starting spring semester!

1. Stock up on food, drinks & toiletries

Do you have poptarts? Oreos? Granola bars? Water bottles? Gatorade? Tampons? Shampoo? Razors? Keep thinking, because you've got to be missing something.

2. Buy more school supplies

Of course you don't have to go crazy while school shopping like you did in 6th grade, but it'd probably be a good idea to get new notebooks, maybe some more flashcards, Whiteout, etc.

3. Clean out files on your laptop

Most of your PowerPoints and Word documents from last semester won't be useful again, so you might as well delete them. If you're not too sure about deleting, at least back up the files somewhere else so they don't take up space on your laptop.

4. Make sure you’ve paid your tuition bill

I'm sure the majority of you did this already, but in case you didn't, this is a reminder. Also, if you can't pay for whatever reason, make sure to contact your college's financial aid office!

5. Bring allergy medicine

If you have spring time allergies, bringing eye drops and tissue packs (to keep in your bag) would be a good idea too.

6. Switch out some shoes, scarves, hats, jewelry, & any other items that change by season

Obviously winter isn't over yet, so definitely keep some of your colder weather stuff. I just wouldn't suggest bringing all the same stuff from last semester plus spring stuff, because your college closet probably won't be able to fit it all.

7. Bring spring clothes & extra hangers

This is super important!! If you're going to bring more spring clothes, make sure you have enough hangers at college!! Having a few extras would be good as well in case you buy stuff at the mall around your college.

8. Bring enough money for textbooks & other things you'll have to pay for

This would be a good time to beg your parents for more money, since everything about college is expensive.

9. Bring an umbrella if you haven't already, because there will be more rain in spring!

Imagine getting your hair, clothes and backpack wet while walking to class in the rain. It sounds awful, right?

10. Make a list of things you want to improve on this semester

It sounds cheesy, but you should do it anyway so you have your priorities and goals set for this semester. Whether that means joining more clubs, setting new rules for your roommate, eating less pizza, or making the Dean's list, enjoy it and make this semester the best one so far!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
