As finals approach in the near future, many of us know what to expect. While freshman have a wide awakening on what to expect, upperclassman have it down to a science. But no matter what, finals are no joke. So here are a few helpful study tips from "A" students on how to succeed.

1. Put The Phone Away

Twitter can wait and most of the tweets will be complaints about studying. So you're not missing anything... I promise.

2. Setting Is Important

STAY AWAY FROM YOUR BED! Library, wherever a desk is, or a quiet, comfortable space where you know you won't fall asleep.

3. Listen To Music That's Not Going to Make You Sing-A-Long

It's important to enjoy your studying and music helps a little, but when you're listening to Starboy you might want to stop your studies and dance... Don't do that, STAY FOCUSED!

4. Make Flashcards

Flashcards are easy and convenient. You can pull them out at anytime and use them to help you get over that tough Chem equation you just can't get down. It's also very rewarding once you flip it over and you're right.

5. Set a Timer

Studying takes a lot of time and energy so sit down and get your study on for 45 minutes then take a break for a MINIMUM of 15 minutes. If your break is longer, you could lose your train of thought and be completely lost on what you were just studying.

6. Color-Coordinate

When you color-coordinate you know what class is with what study material, that way you don't end up studying for Bio when you actually have a Gender Studies exam the next day.

7. Get Enough Sleep

When you're tired, your eyes do not work as well, so take some time to cut out a chance to have a power nap, since most people pull all nighters for studying... YAY COLLEGE!

8. Eat A Healthy Snack

9. Find A Quality Study Buddy

Studying by yourself is great, you get to go at your own pace and you get to enjoy some quiet time, but studying with friends can be even better. If you're struggling in a class and the TA isn't giving you the attention you need, find someone who is in the class that is doing well or find someone who has already passed the course and ask them for help! Even if it is just one problem you can't figure out, most students will help you out because hey, college is hard.

10. REWARD IS KEY

We live in a society where if you know something good will come out at the end of all your hard work, you're going to do a better job. Reward yourself when finishing your work. Whether it be a bag of Skittles for knowing all the answers on your study guide or treating yourself to a new outfit for acing your Psych final. Having that all planned out before you study will make you want it that much more.

So break out the textbooks and sharpen your pencils because it will all be worth it in the end. Happy studying!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
