10 Songs Getting Me Through the Week

Vol. 2

1. "Diamonds"

Artist: Lane 8 (feat. Solomon Grey)

This is pure long drive contemplation music; the easy and addictive notes keep the mind adrift in the best way possible with the added benefit of Solomon Grey’s light and attractive voice in the background.

2. "digging for windows"

Artists: Zack de la Rocha

All Rage Against the Machine fans will understand the levity of this track, but for those of you who don’t know this was former Rage Against the Machine singer’s first new solo release in over a decade, and it’s dirty, hard-hitting beat alongside De La Rocha’s urgent lyrics is something not to be ignored.

3. "Heatwave"

Artist: Robin Schulz (feat. Akon)

I’ve been blasting this one most nights when I’ve come home to clean/shower/make dinner; it works for all. For those of you who love Akon’s voice paired with a soothing and frankly, addicting House beat, this is the one for you.

4. "Spack Jarrow"

Artist: W&W & MOTi

Hit-the-ground-running gym status all the way on this one. I’m also a HUGE fan of any and all Pirates of the Caribbean movies so this song tends to jack me up pretty quick.

5. "This is What it Feels Like"

Artist: Armin van Buuren (feat. Trevor Guthrie)

Plain and simply, it just feels good to listen to this track; it has a way of gently moving you out of your own crowded headspace and into one that’s 10 times better.

6. "Younger"

Artist: Seinabo Sey (Kygo Remix)

I knew Kygo, but did not know Seinabo Sey. I absolutely loved her voice the first time I heard this song. “Younger” was one of Sey’s first debut singles which only grew more popular after Kygo remixed it with his own signature flare. Between her voice and his beats, there’s no wrong choice about this song.

7. "I'd Love to Change the World"

Artist: Jetta (Matstubs Remix)

Like the beginning of a dark movie, this one pulls you in and keeps you there, which is perfect since the song was covered by The Firelights the NightCrawler movie trailer released last year. It’s very hard not to lose yourself in the lyrics and the trap beats that Matstubs expertly creates.

8. "Warriors"

Artist: Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons always builds me up when I put on a song of theirs, so this song is clearly what I play before I go into work; gets me in the right mood ;) If you haven’t yet checked out the music video for this one I’d suggest you did, as it was recorded for the League of Legends 2014 World Championship video and was the official theme song for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

9. "Parachute"

Artist: Chris Stapleton

Yes I'm going' Country on ya; can't help it because this song is truly badass. You might recognize this one from a Ford or Dodge commercial, because thats for sure where I got it from!

10. "Saved"

Artist: Deadmau5

Rounding it all off with Deadmau5's "Saved." I could drive to this song forever. Also, I tend to feel like the human who happened to stumble across Narnia when I listen to this one...its not a bad feeling.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
