10 Reasons Why Going To College Isn't Easy
Great Value Colleges

Sooner or later everyone reaches those points in their lives where it is time for a new chapter in their autobiography. I, as well as millions of other young adults around the world, are in a state of transition. Entering college is one of those things that brings about insecurity, hope, and fear and excitement. It involves letting go of some of the past and being welcome to new experiences. Here are a few reasons why going to college is life-changing.

1. Missing your bed

Bed is a worldly form of heaven and you can only hope that beds at college provide a fraction of the same comfort.

2. Leaving friends at home

They've been there for you and supported you your whole life, and now you might not see them for months at a time.

3. Leaving your parents

Your parents have dedicated their lives to your success. And no matter how much you agree or disagree with them, acknowledge your love and appreciation for them.

4. Controlling how much you eat

At college, food is everywhere and it's abundant. It's a true challenge being able to stop yourself from another plate of all-you-can-eat and having just one more bowl of Easy Mac. However, with much determination, you'll manage some self-control.

5. Dealing with independence

With freedom comes responsibility. Independence also means making your own schedule, setting reminders for yourself, and actually doing everything you're supposed to.

6. Walking. A lot.

You better have a good pair of sneakers and some strong legs or you might never get past your residence hall.

7. Sharing spaces

Sharing a room might be new to some, but sharing space in college also includes bathrooms. Sing in the shower at your own, and others' risk.

8. Meeting new people

Socializing isn't always easy. Just remember to be yourself and find something in common to talk about and you'll be loaded with friends in no time!

9. Learning to clean and do laundry

These are life skills that you'll need to acquire, although it's no indication of how often your room or clothes will be cleaned.

10. Managing time

Being on time is tough; a college student just always has so much to do. Just always keep track of time and be ready to run across campus if needed.

Moving away from all you've ever known is difficult and can make you feel disconnected, but remember you're not alone. Don't be afraid to call your friends and family, or ask an upperclassman for help. Going to college won't be easy, but the challenge is part of what makes it such a great experience.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
