The Rio Olympic Games 2016 officially start this Friday and I'm so excited to watch it all unfold. Here are 10 reasons why you should be too.
1. The Opening Ceremony is going to be lit.
It's no secret that the Brazilians know how to have a good time, I'm sure you've seen pictures and videos of Carnivale or even watched the movie Rio (those birds turn up). Beside all that's going on within the country, Brazil is so full of culture and tradition that they can incorporate into the ceremony. Plus Gisele Bundchen will be headlining the show which is reason enough to tune in. It may not be as heartfelt as London or as tech savvy as Beijing, but this Opening Ceremony will definitely be worth the watch.
2. There's always going to be something to watch on TV.
No more flipping through channels wondering what you should watch, for a few weeks at least. The schedule of the games is packed with events all day long for your viewing pleasure.
3. The return of Micheal Phelps.
The 30-year-old is back and more focused than ever to take on much younger competition. Phelps says he hasn't trained this hard in years and is thirsty for another medal. Hopefully we can see him take home another medal in swimming for Team USA!
4. Learning about random sports
Kite Surfing anyone? Kite Surfing is new sport to be featured on this years Olympics. It is taking the place of windsurfing and is going to be very exciting to watch. Discovering random sports like Kite Surfing, Handball, Ping Pong, Judo, Badminton, Fencing and many more makes watching the Games all the more fun.
5. Young talent that's going to blow us away
Simone Biles is already the most decorated female gymnast in history and I'm sure she can't wait to add an Olympic medal to that collection. She along with multiple other young athletes competing for their first Olympics that are expected to WOW.
6. It's Usain Bolt's last Olympics
Facing an injured hamstring, retirement after the Games, and turning 30 on the day of the Closing Ceremonies, Bolt is trying to win the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4x100-meter relay for the third consecutive time. This is his last Olympic run and definitely will be quite the show.
7. To get inspired
Let's be real, the Olympics definitely inspire the athletes in us all. Just watching the Olympians pursue their dreams and do what they've been training their whole life to do can inspire us to follow our dreams and maybe even hit the gym.
8. Cheering on your country
Nothing brings a nation together like winning a gold medal. For some reason, the pride in your country extraordinarily increases when united for competition. The Olympics brings people together as something to look forward to and cheer for. So watch and cheer on your country!!
9. Watching history being made
History is constantly being made at every Olympic Games. With new athletes, events, and records being broken, history is inevitable.
10. HOT ATHLETES, duh
The Olympic Games are filled with athletes that have been training their whole lives to compete and look this good. Watch and admire all their hard work (especially those abs).
Watch the magic happen!!!
