Working at a kid's camp this summer has been a great experience. I've loved getting to know the kids, working with the other staff members and just having fun. While working at camp, here are 10 things camp counselors are asked at least five times a day.
1. Can I go to the bathroom?
We probably get asked this question the most. Whether they actually have to go or want to take a walk, you have to let them go. You don't want to have to clean the mess if you didn't let them.
2. Can I get a drink of water?
This is the second most asked question. Parents, pack your kids a water bottle. Summer can get really hot and there is a fear of dehydration, so you can't say no to this either.
3. What are we doing next?
Kids get bored so fast. Literally you can be five minutes into a new activity and you're already being asked "What's next?"
4. How much longer until my mom picks me up?
Not soon enough!
5. Will you help me braid this necklace?
I couldn't tell you how many times I get asked to help with friendship bracelets. The kids get bored and then I'm stuck doing the whole thing.
6. Can you play this game with me?
Summer camp is full of board games. I've had my fair share of Connect Four, Mancala, Jenga and every card game known to man.
7. Can you tie my shoe?
Do you know how many bunny ears I've made this summer? Parents, teach your kids or buy them the ones with velcro.
8. Will you open my snack for me?
You open the snack for the kid, and then they leave the wrapper on the floor for you to pick up.
9. Can you push me on the swing?
Pushing kids on a swing for hours on end is no easy task. My arms are plenty sore after that.
10. Are we going inside/outside?
As soon as you go outside, they want to come right back inside and vice versa. Can't win.
