The Hudson Valley is home to beautiful, scenic views, various colleges, adventurous hiking trails and towns that people only dream of living in. This summer is the time to make the most out of what the Hudson Valley has to offer. The Hudson Valley is expansive with many places that deserve a visit, many of the following will fall within Orange and Dutchess counties. Here are 10 places to visit and things to do to ensure you have a wonderful summer:

1. Mount Beacon- Beacon

This is one of the best ways to spend a summer day. Grab a partner (and a bottle of water) and head straight up the mountain. The views from the summit make the strenuous hike worthwhile, plus you can skip the gym for the rest of the week.

2. United States Military Academy at West Point

West Point is a trip worth taking; visit the visitor's center, cemetary, and the museum. Better yet, schedule your visit on a game day or during a concert or show.

3. Jones Farm- Cornwall

This is my favorite place in the Hudson Valley to spend my free time. Pop into this country store and grab some cookies (the butter pecan cookies are life-changing) and fudge, and once your done feeding yourself, head outside to feed the farm animals too.

4. Walkway Over the Hudson- Poughkeepsie

Not much of a hiker? Take a stroll over the Hudson River this summer. Nothing is better than the views from the walkway.

5. Overlook Drive-In- Poughkeepsie

Wind down on a cool summer night with a drive-in movie. (Don't forget to buy their popcorn!)

6. 2 Alice's- Newburgh and Cornwall

Home to fresh coffee, extensive flavors, delicious bagel sandwiches and a relaxing atmosphere. You cannot go wrong with any of their coffee or tea options, plus the specials are always tasty and hit the spot.

7. Cold Spring Waterfront- Cold Spring

Are you in need of a little relaxation? Take a break and head to Cold Spring's waterfront. Take a stroll through the town and across the riverfront, and if you need to be in the shade head straight for the gazebo. If it's a sweltering hot day (or any day really), cool down with an ice cream from Moo Moo's Creamery right across from the waterfront.

8. Zora Dora Paletaria- Beacon

The perfect place to go after a hike up Mount Beacon or during any summer day. Their popsicles are delicious and refreshing and you will never get bored with their ever-changing extensive flavor list.

9. Angry Orchard- Walden

I can't think of a better way to spend a hot summer day than sipping on some hard cider.

10. Billy Joe's Ribworks- Newburgh

The perfect place for good food, good drinks and a good time. Bite into a grilled mac and cheese topped with pulled pork or sip on a beer or frozen margarita. Summertime is the perfect time for Billy's, sit outside by the river for dinner, or head over to one of their outdoor bars, better yet, sip on some craft beer at their beer garden.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
