At the University of Dayton, every single student, faculty and staff member contribute to the fantastic community. Beyond that, this specific population is also comprised of well-known characters seen around campus on a daily basis. These local celebrities of UD add to the uniqueness of the school and grant a sense of camaraderie among the students past and present. Here are 10 people that are UD famous!

1. Dr. Dan Curran

As UD's current president, it is impossible to attend this university and not know who this congenial man is. Famous for his crowd surfing escapades in 2014, Dr. Dan is Dayton's biggest fan. He will be greatly missed as our president!

2. Scoochie Smith

At a school where being a member of Red Scare is basically a rite of passage, it's no surprise that basketball players are a big deal on campus. Scoochie specifically has gained prominence at UD due to his great leadership and performance on the court.

3. The Brown Street Pimp

A rather notorious figure around UD, The Brown Street Pimp can generally be found dancing in Bargo's Grill and Tap or hitting up the student neighborhood looking for a party. No one really knows The Brown Street Pimp's backstory or even his real name, but we do know that you absolutely have to take a picture with him when found.

4. The Grilled Cheese Lady

When it's said that not all heroes wear capes, they're talking about The Grilled Cheese Lady. Known for her adorable yellow and white cart, every UD student looks forward to a homemade grilled cheese from this wonderful woman on a sunny Saturday afternoon!

5. The DD Food Truck Owner

Another food staple on campus, the DD Subs and Sandwiches truck legitimately saves lives. The owner makes sure to be positioned on Lawnview Avenue for the entirety of the weekend to make sure every student gets the sandwich they need!

6. The Hazing Lady

Though no one is entirely sure what sparked her persistent protesting, this woman can be seen singing and chanting on the corner of Brown Street and Stuart Street with her anti-hazing poster on any given day.

7. Gustavo from El Rancho Grande

Basically the poster child of El Rancho Grande, anyone who has ever visited this restaurant has most likely experienced the audacious waiter Gustavo. A man who loves his customers, he'll be sure to make your visit to El Rancho Grande memorable.

8. The Cashiers at Marycrest

Nancy, Tonna, Laura and Lisa to name a few. These ladies make eating at Marycrest the best part of your day with their friendly greetings and contagious sense of humor. These ladies truly care about the students and will put a big smile on your face!

9. DJ Snowman

For all the Tim's rats out there, DJ Snowman is known as the guy spinning the freshest tunes at the critically acclaimed Timothy's Pub and Grill. He's always down to take a request or give your best friend a birthday shout out.

10. Doug at VWK

The face of Virginia W. Kettering, Doug can be seen daily cracking jokes and singing in the dining hall. Coined as "The Godfather of UD," he loves Dayton and the students who inhabit it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
