If you're like me, the recent news of Alan Rickman's death was shattering. I grew up reading and watching "Harry Potter," secretly loving Professor Snape for his odd demeanor and unlikely heroism. When I woke up last Thursday, I unsuspectingly checked Facebook, only to scroll through and discover the news. The first thing I did was text my mom to tell her how sad I was and that "my childhood was officially over." It's almost like the end of an era, and like any other slightly-obsessed and saddened fan, I began to think about the "Harry Potter" series and all the lessons that not only I, but millions of other fans, have learned. So in honor of our beloved Professor Snape (Alan Rickman), here are some quotes from Harry Potter to live by.
1. "Working hard is important. But there is something that matters even more: believing in yourself." -Harry Potter
2. "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live." -Dumbledore
3. "If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals." -Sirius Black
4. "The mind is not a book to be opened at will and examined at leisure." -Professor Snape
5. "There are more important things, like friendship and bravery." -Hermione Granger
6. "It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well have not lived at all - in which case you fail by default." -J.K. Rowling
7. "Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure." -Luna Lovegood
8. "We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the power we choose to act on. That's who we really are." -Sirius Black
9. "It is our choices that show who we truly are, far more than our abilities." -Dumbledore
10. "After all this time?" "Always." -Severus Snape
