10 Things for Finals Season

Are you sane? I'm not sane.

Finals are here. We all knew they were coming, but they seemed to rush in like no other finals season. Here are ten things that I will be doing during the next week to keep my sanity.

1. Pray.

How else will my grades rise? At this point, they are Lazarus and only Jesus himself can call them out of the grave. *super exaggeration*

2. Getting some sleep.

While Jesus turns the hearts of my wicked professors, I'll be letting him take the wheel on this one. Let's face it, I could stay up to cram extra study hours in. However, my bed has been made far earlier in the semester, now I must lie in it. ***But, really, I do need some sleep. ***

3. Eating good.

All the food, yes, all the food. Yeah, I'm stress eating. Who asked you? Baking and eating is what soothes me. Either join me in my indulgence or shut up seeing I didn't consult you about my calorie intake.

4. Taking good care of my hygiene.

I've seen this every finals season in college, people think that their hygiene get's a free pass during this week. Absolutely not. Becky, go shower, your hair is greasy. I don't want to smell you, you shouldn't want to smell that either. Taking a shower will make you feel 100% better, I promise. Some of my best ideas come while I'm showering.

5. Calling my mom.

I'm a procrastinator and calling my mom is such an easy thing that will take my mind off of ridiculous professors and hard exams. Plus, I'll get brownie points.

6. Keeping my room tidy.

I can't function in filth. In order to perform at my optimum ability, my space has to stay functional. I have to know where everything is so that I don't stress myself out more by looking for something that should be easily identifiable.

7. Study sessions with my bb's <3

These are the nights that so many memories are made. I don't want to miss making memories with some of my favorite Kohawks, especially those that will be graduating in May *cries in Ebonics*

8. Meditate!!!

Otherwise, when I'm stressed I become very grumpy and hard to be around. I don't want to bite anyone's head off.

9. Offering support when I can.

Normally, I go about my day without paying too much attention to others around me (even though I'm very observant). However, I make sure to take extra special care of my fellow Kohawks during this week. It's terrible for everyone. I don't need to add to anyone else's stress. So I may pause the pettiness just briefly.

10. Putting forth my best effort.

All I can do is give my best. At the end of the day, I have to be completely honest with myself about the amount of effort I've put into the grades I will have earned at the end of the semester. I'm going to be proud of every grade this semester because I put in lots of hard work and effort.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
