10 People I Wanted To Be When I Grew Up

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Every kid has someone they look up to, and most know what they want to be when they grow up. The imagination of a child is beautiful. As children, many of us wanted to be someone that interested us. A world of firefighters, doctors, ninjas and superheroes seems reasonable to a six year old. Unfortunately, as we get older, we tend to get less imaginative. Here is my list of what i wanted to be when i grew up.

1. Librarian

I was (and still am) the biggest book nerd as a child. I was always looking forward to going to the library with my mother. A librarian position seemed like the best job in the world. Plus, I could tell people to be quiet and get paid for it!

2. Dancer

My elementary years were filled with dance classes and recitals. I took jazz, tap and ballet. Tap dancing was my favorite because i thought the shoes were pretty.

3. Veterinarian

Who doesn't have a favorite animal? Animals are amazing and the thought of being able to help animals every day seemed like the best thing in the world.

4. Spy

Yes, I was obsessed with the Spy Kids franchise, but wouldn't it be cool to shoot peanut butter lasers at giant thumb men?

5. Actor

In middle school, my friends' favorite actor was Zac Efron. Mine was Meryl Streep. The way she can immerse an audience into any story was magical to me. I wanted to influence thousands of people through film just like her.

6. Singer

Everyone wanted to be a singer in 2010. The idea of being able to stand in the middle of a stage and give your all into a song was so inspiring.

7. Pediatrician

I love kids and helping others, so during my college search in high school, I decided that I wanted to be a pediatrician. However, science was not my best subject.

8. Actor/Singer

I still enjoyed the thought of being an actor or singer in high school, so why not do both? Having the opportunity to perform for others was something I looked forward to. I ended up taking acting/singing classes, and things didn't really work out, but I'm OK with that. I made some good friends and got a cool t-shirt.

9. Kindergarten Teacher

I was accepted into college as an elementary education major. I've always enjoyed helping kids and seeing them learn new things in different ways. My teachers in elementary school always got me excited to go back to school every day to learn something new. The impact of a teacher in a child's life is very important for their development, which is why teachers are so important to society.

10. Graphic Designer

My high school years were also filled with art classes and events. It was something that I learned I have a talent in and enjoy. Currently, I have my thoughts set on getting my degree in graphic design and minoring in elementary education. While I know that the two don't seem to go together at all, I'm just very happy that I have the opportunity to attend college while doing what interests me.

I've changed my mind about what I wanted to be when I grew up a lot, and I still might change my mind some more in the future. But in the end, all of the things that I thought about doing and activities that I participated in have definitely let me learn and grow from them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
