Stages Of Receiving A Care Package

Thanks mom and dad!

Stages Of Receiving A Care Package

Everyone knows that feeling...sometimes you'll get an email, sometimes there's a note in your mailbox: you got a package.

Most of the time, you're aware that this is coming. One of my friends has an online shopping addiction and is constantly ordering jewelry, makeup, and shoes to be delivered to her here at school. I'm a pretty forgetful person, so sometimes I need my mom to send me something I forgot at home. But there are those rare occasions where you get a surprise present in the mail from your parents, grandparents, family friends, whoever was kind enough to send it to you. At the end of the day, it's one of the staples of a college experience, and it makes you feel loved in such a big way.

It starts one of two ways...either you get an email that there's something waiting for you at the post office...

...or you go to check your mail and you have that bright yellow package slip that means someone was thinking of you.

Next, you've got to make your way to the post office window...only to discover that there is a ridiculous line.

Come on, how many people need to pick up packages today? You have to wait....

...and wait...

...and wait.

FINALLY! You're at the front of the line! You hand the lady behind the counter your slip and proudly recite your box number.

She disappears behind the counter and you're left to wait again.

*Cue "Jeopardy" theme song.*

AND SHE'S BACK! With a beautiful brown box covered in tape!

Hugging it close to your chest, you check the address label to see who loves you enough to pack a box full of presents to send you.

You make your way back to your dorm or apartment, trying to resist the urge to open the box on your walk.

You shake it...are those M&Ms?

Opening the door to your building, you hold your care package proudly, making sure everyone knows that, yeah, someone sent you a present.

Unlocking the door to your room, you bolt toward your desk for something to rip past the tape to open it.

You unpack the snacks and treats one by one....candy, newspapers for padding, candy, Oreos, a pack of gum, candy, your favorite chips, more candy, it's really just food...

WOW this is a lot of candy...

...and coffee? Well, that's good, you were starting to run a little low.

After everything is unpacked, you gaze lovingly at your new stash of goodies and take a quick pic for Snapchat.

Thank you to everyone who sends care packages to your college students! They really, really appreciate it, I'll be the first to tell you!

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.

Some universities only get two or three days off for Thanksgiving break. Or, if your university is like mine, you get the whole week off go go home. A whole week off is a long time. I'm not complaining, because I'd rather have a whole week off than three days, but there is a lot of down time. Here are some ideas as to what you can do to get the most out of your Thanksgiving break.

For college students everywhere, Thanksgiving is a time to relax and not really worry about homework (well, depending on what major you're in).
