Everybody knows that Wisconsin is famous for its cheese. Many even refer to Wisconsin as the cheese state. Whenever I tell somebody from Los Angeles that I go to school in Wisconsin, they ask me if I like cheese. And when you get off the plane in the Madison airport, there are cheese hats sold at the convenience stores. It is common knowledge that we just, well, love cheese.
So where can we find this fabulous cheese, and more specifically, what about cheese curds? Before coming to UW my friends that already attended school here would rave about these things called cheese curds. I had no idea what a cheese curd was before I moved here, but now, it is safe to say, I am officially obsessed. I love cheese curds and I have made it my hobby to find the best ones in Madison. So, these three places are where I have found the cheesiest, most delicious cheese curds in Madison:
State Street Brats
After a football game we all love to go to State Street Brats, have a nice cold beer, a brat, and of course some cheese curds. Who isn’t starving after a football game, because lets face it, nobody wants to buy the ridiculously overpriced food at the Camp Randall. Conveniently, the cheese curds at State Street Brats are made quicker then any other place I have ordered cheese curds at before. Still, they are fresh, warm, and cheesier than ever. I am not sure if I love these amazing cheese curds so much because they are always the first thing to stop my hungry stomach from growling after a long badger football game, or simply because they are just delicious.
The Sett
The Sett, located in Union South (yes, I do realize how far Union South is from Langdon) has some fantastic cheese curds. And, they don’t only have cheese curds, they have garlic cheese curds!! Who knew? Garlic is delicious, and so are cheese curds, so the two together, simply amazing. Not only the garlic makes the curds irresistibly enjoyable, but, the cheese inside is some of the best cheese I have tasted in Madison. I urge you to try these garlic cheese curds, but just don’t be trying to kiss anybody afterwards!
My sconnie friend, Talia Berman, claims, “These are the best cheese curds I have ever had”. And, who knows how many cheese curds she has had in her life, after all, she is from Wisconsin.
Graze
Graze is a delicious restaurant located up by the beautiful capital. After fasting all day on Yom Kippur I decided to break the dreaded fast here with some cheese curds. Let me tell you, that was a fantastic decision that I made. These cheese curds are so savory that as you bite into them, you can feel the cheese melt in your mouth. Such curds are definitely a must have in Madison.
So if you find yourself bored or craving some cheese curds, I highly recommend trying some cheese curds from State Street Brats, The Sett, or Graze, you won’t regret it!
