An Extra-Extraordinary Open Letter To My Best Friends Forever

It’s not every day you come across seriously amazing people. I think it takes awhile to realize who your true friends are. Between the constant drama and pressure of high school, the ACT, the SAT, tests, exams, finals, fights, boyfriends, girl friends…

Let's be real, there’s no time to have genuine relationships with people. Right? Wrong.

The truth of all of this mess we call life is that the people who genuinely want to be in your life are going to make time for you, your life, your problems, tears, everything. It might take awhile, but it is beyond correct that your true friends are found not even in high school, but after graduation, and that some of the most genuine people you will ever meet will be in college. But most importantly, no matter where you meet your BFFL, every moment you will spend with them will be more precious than ever. So here it is, an extra-extraordinary open letter to my best friends forever.

Wait, you can tolerate me today?

Yes, I can. I will always be here to provide love, care and, most importantly, a shoulder for you to cry on. But more than that, I think it's important that I thank you for being my rock. You tolerate me at my worst moments when everything seems way too crumbly to even be able to pick up ever again. When I needed that slap in the face? Seriously, thank you so much for giving it to me. I value your words and time more than anything, even if it is not always what I want to hear.

Thank you for the silly memes, pictures, and most importantly the laughs.

Even though we were not supposed to be texting in class, that meme of the puppy falling down the slippery slide actually did make my day 10 times better. The best friends are friends that are still your rock, but are also the people that are ready to fling you into a huge glitter pit because it would be funny. To expand on this: I have done the dumbest, funniest, best things with my best friends, and those have been some of the most important/ fun/ meaningful moments of my life. I absolutely love having best friends that I can trust and instill my faith in.

There’s not really much to say about best friends besides that they really are there for you through everything. You realize after awhile how important it is to have those people in your life that will listen to your complaints and tell you how smart or stupid they are, just as you would.

Better than that, I have the greatest best friends than I could have ever wished for. It takes awhile, but the more you find yourself and realize your potential, the more you will start to surround yourself with people who will realize your potential too. You are so blessed to have friends that will hold you up when you’re down, even if that means taping you to a pole and throwing funny jokes at you for five hours until you feel better.

I promise to be your best friend, sister, and mom if you need me to be. I promise to be your forever friend here for you, to be your crazy bridesmaid one day, and to smash your face into your birthday cake one day. Beyond that, I promise I will be here for you and love you no matter what mistakes you make. I see your beauty and potential just as you see mine; I see all that you can be, will be and have become.

Maybe this is an open letter, but more importantly, this is my promise to you.

I love you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
