8 Holiday Snacks To Take With You On The Trail
Leanne Bakes

Need an adorable snack for the trail? Yes, you do. The holidays are coming up, and there is nothing better than celebrating with a cute snack to make for yourself, family, or friends. Just because it is going to be a little colder outside doesn’t mean it is time to stop getting out. If making a yummy treat is your only motivation to do something active outside, then so be it. Whether you are going on a walk in the park with your dog or hitting the slopes, these snacks are sure to satisfy.

1. Grinch Kabobs

Put a marshmallow, strawberry, banana slice, and grape on a toothpick.

2. Strawberry Santas

Flip your strawberries upside down. Snip the tip off of the strawberry and use some whip cream to stick it back down. Add a tiny dot of whip cream on top of the strawberry (for the Santa hat), and two little dots on his belly (for the buttons). If you have black frosting, add two dots on the whip cream for the eyes.

3. Elf Shoes

You'll need Bugles, one cup of creamy peanut butter, a half a pound of white almond bark and sprinkles. Put the peanut butter in a zip lock bag and smush it around to get the peanut butter more flowy. Cut a little bit off the corner of the baggie and start squeezing a little bit of the peanut butter into each Bugle. Melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30-second intervals until it's all melted. Dip the Bugle ends in the chocolate and sprinkle on the sprinkles. Set them onto wax paper to cool.

4. String Cheese Snowmen

Get a black Sharpie and add eyes, a mouth, and buttons. Get an orange sharpie and draw on a carrot nose. Get a colored ribbon to tie on the snowman’s scarf. Get black paper and cut out little hats to glue on.

5. Chocolate Christmas Wands

Get pretzel rods, chocolate and sprinkles. Melt the chocolate and dip the pretzels in it, and then add the sprinkles!

6. Pizza Stockings

You'll need one can of Pillsbury Crescent Dough, 1/4 cup of pizza sauce, 1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and two tablespoons of torn basil leaves. Heat the oven to 350°F. Unroll the dough on a work surface. Using a stocking-shaped cookie cutter, cut 12 (ish) stockings from the dough. Transfer them to an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake then for eight minutes. Top them with sauce and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top of each stocking. Bake four minutes longer or until cheese melts. Sprinkle with basil leaves. (If you don’t have stocking cutters, you could use a candy cane cutter and do the same thing.)

*If you are going hiking, bring pizza sauce and cheese in a separate bowl or baggie, and apply when you are ready to eat.

7. Lumps of Coal

You'll need three tablespoons of butter, six cups of marshmallows, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, five cups of Cocoa Krispies, one cup of crushed Oreos and black food coloring. Pour the Krispies and Oreos in a large mixing bowl. Set aside. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat until melted. Turn the heat down to the lowest setting and add the marshmallows. Stir until the marshmallows are mostly all melted (this will take a few minutes -- low and slow is key for the perfect texture). Add the vanilla extract and black food coloring (keep adding until you get the color you want) and finish melting. Once fully melted, take it off the heat and pour it over the Krispies. Stir to combine until everything is black. Dump everything by spoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet so they look like funky coal shapes. Allow them to cool for about 20 minutes.

8. Sleigh-Riding Teddy Bears

You'll need 10 Snickers bite-sized bars, 20 mini candy canes, 20 mini Teddy Grahams, and chocolate frosting. On the bottom of each candy bar, place the frosting. Stick two candy canes on the bottom of each candy bar. Frost the bottom of each teddy graham and place them on the candy bar.

Don’t forget to hydrate with a reindeer water bottle!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
