30 Signs You Grew Up In Puyallup, WA

Puyallup, Washington.

We might be a small town, but we're big in heart.

1. You correct outsiders on how to pronounce Puyallup properly: Pew-al-lup

2. You know our city is named after the Puyallup Tribe of Indians.

3. You are proud and somewhat embarrassed that our town is known for the Puyallup Fair.

4. You know at least the beginning the Puyallup Fair jingle:You can do it at a trot/You can do it at a gallup/You can do it real slow so your heart won't palpitate/Just don't be late/Do the Puyallup

5. You are upset that they changed the name of the Puyallup Fair to the Washington State Fair and got rid of the cow heads for the different gates. Oh and that they repainted the Extreme Scream red.

6. You got free fair tickets and got out of school early on Fair Day.

7. And because you got a free ticket, you could spend money on a Dizzy Pass and eat delicious fair food.

8. You were super stoked for the 9th Grade Dance at the Fair because it included all the ninth graders in the district and not just the goofy kids in your classes.

9. You attended and/or graduated at the Fair.

10. You've attended the Daffodil Festival or if you were cool enough, you were a Daffodil Princess in the parade.

11. You have taken a tour of Ezra Meeker's mansion.

12. You've attended the largest street festival in Pierce County, Meeker Days.

13. You've taken a field trip to The Karshner Museum.

14. And probably the Pioneer Farm Museum and Ohop Indian Village.

15. You couldn't wait to be a senior in high school so you could be in the first row of the student section at Sparks Stadium.

16. You've been to a birthday party or a PTA event at Tiffany's Skate Inn, and reluctantly did the hokey pokey and the chicken dance.

17. You hate Meridian with a passion.

18. Getting a Sonic Drive-In was the biggest thing that happened in 2009.

19. You know the difference between Puyallup and South Hill.

20. You still tell people that the YMCA is behind the old Safeway.

21. There are two Fred Meyers, two super Wal-Marts, and two super Targets, and you've shopped at all of them.

22. You were upset when they closed the Disney Store at the South Hill Mall.

23. You filled up on hot dogs and free samples while your mom shopped at Costco.

24. You either loved or strongly disliked this guy.

25. The tulip farms are so pretty and always make the perfect desktop background.

26. Your family makes a trip down in the valley to Spooner Farms to pick out the perfect pumpkin.

27. You might live in the largest neighborhoods in town, Silver Creek or Sunrise.

28. The Puyallup River is a thing, especially if you like to fish.

29. You've taken a picture of Mt. Rainer during an extra pink sunset.

30. Even if you move away, Puyallup will always be home!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
