13 Signs You Grew Up In Wheeling, WV

Wheeling can be boring, but we love it. We may be a small city, but we're proud of our hometown. "The Friendly City" has shaped who we are. Here are 13 signs you grew up in Wheeling, West Virginia:

1. You’re obsessed with Dicarlo’s Pizza.

Out-of-towners say that this pizza tastes like cardboard with cold cheese on top, but they have no idea what they’re talking about. Dicarlo’s is the most delicious pizza. Ever.

2. You get irritated when people mispronounce Oglebay.

It isn’t named after a bay.

3. You’ve worked a minimum wage job at Oglebay/Wheeling Park, or you know someone who has.

4. You describe our location by flipping the bird and pointing to the tip of your middle finger.

5. You clarify the location by saying “it’s about an hour south of Pittsburgh."

This tends to confuse people who think that West Virginia is western Virginia.

6. You don’t think you’re a band wagon Steelers fan because you consider them your team.

7. You go to Generations to see high school friends over break.

8. You’ve hung out at Sheetz at least once in your life.

And you know late night Sheetz is the best.

9. You've talked about our celeb, “that guy from My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” John Corbett.

10.You know that the real celeb of Wheeling is Moondog, the bearded guy who rides his bike all over Wheeling.

We get more excited about seeing him than Santa at the end of the Christmas parade.

11. You’ve seen the Festival of Lights so many times that you know what display is coming up next.

12. You also have a love/hate relationship with the Festival of Lights because it’s the only time Wheeling has traffic.

13. You think Wheeling is moving up in the world because we finally have a SnapChat geotag.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone does not try to help their self before asking others. How can someone else be expected to help you if you do not first do that yourself? I'm all about helping those that need it when the time comes, however whenever someone does not even attempt to help him or herself first then that becomes a huge problem. As we all have learned, people tend to take advantage of us in one way or another. I am sure we all read this short story when we were younger and it follows that same principle:
