10 Things I Want To Do Before I Turn 20

Here's to always gaining new experiences.

I've done a lot of things pretty late. I didn't learn how to ride a bike until I turned fifteen. Recently, I've battled feelings of inadequacy in terms of my age, so I figured I should create some sort of plan towards inching closer to my "ideal self." Thus, I've compiled a kick-ass to-do list for the next two years of my life. Here's to always gaining new experiences.

1. I want to get out of the country.

I want to look at an onion dome in Russia while eating onion rings. This has been a dream of mine since I was little. Seriously. I'd also like to visit Amsterdam with friends because they are liberal in some ways the U.S. is not--for example, their drinking age.

2. I want to find a way to thank my parents.

I want to let go of my feelings of entitlement and truly repay my mom and dad for the lessons they've taught me. Here's to you (and thanks for reading this). P.S. I'm moving far, far away when I graduate. It's not personal.

3. I want to visit the Pacific Northwest and get lost in the music scene.

Green is my favorite color and I want to be surrounded by the thick scent of trees and rain while basking in angst-y music. Also, I imagine that everyone in the Pacific Northwest wears flannels all the time, which is alluring.

4. I want to publish a short story.

But I need something compelling to write about, first. And the motivation. And the time. And someone to emotionally support me.

5. I want to witness a gross medical event.

In person, not on YouTube. Preferably, a severed toe or something else that would make the squeamish cringe.

6. I want to conduct undergraduate research.

With my favorite professor. I want to loudly and meticulously present my future findings to anyone who will listen (even if my results are endlessly boring).

7. I want to go tree-spiking.

I learned about it in a class on radicalism and it sounds like a good time for a good cause. No system but the ecosystem.

8. I want to paddle board more elegantly.

Since I wiped out the first time I tried and it's something I have yet to conquer. Plus, it's the best leg workout ever. I definitely need my best friend by my side again for this one.

9. I want to make out at the top of a Ferris wheel.

I've had this request denied before. Hopefully, I'll have better luck next time.

10. I want to develop an actual sense of style.

And wear high heels for an entire day without ripping them off my feet and hurling them into a wall. It'd be nice to escape my default yoga pants/ leggings look, too. At least I stopped wearing my blue, sparkly "give-up-on-life" slippers to class and to sushi restaurants...

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
