The Importance of having your own style: Comfort in your own skin

Having a creative and unique style may seem like a bold fashion statement to some, but what it really comes down to is your own comfort level with yourself. In being unique, and wearing what others see as bold, or different, can really have a lasting effect on how you view yourself. That is where the importance of being comfortable with yourself can really set you apart from the crowd. Many people have heard the gossipers who seem to always find something wrong with what everyone else is wearing. These are the people who can either motivate you to keep your style and uniqueness, or cause you to fold to the pressure of meeting someone else requirements of what does or doesn’t look nice on you.

How comfortable are you in your own skin? If you haven’t asked yourself that question, now is a great time to figure that out. Your comfort level with yourself should be at the forefront of all your outfit decisions. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing it, and you don’t feel beautiful, then why force yourself to fit other people’s fashion sense. Find clothing you are comfortable in and work with that. This is what I like to call working with what you have, and every single person has something about them that they can work to their advantage. Every man and woman is beautiful, and if you’re not feeling that way when you get dressed, keep changing until you do. Find the feature of yours that you’re most comfortable with and tailor your style towards that. Being comfortable in your own skin shows when you are out among others, and nothing is more obvious than when someone isn’t comfortable with what they are wearing. You don’t want to be the woman that constantly has to fix her skirt or dress, or the guy that can’t keep his pants up. Know your size, and don’t push the limits. It’s nice to see someone who has a unique style, but if it’s obvious that you’re not comfortable with what you have on, it’s hard for anyone else to be comfortable either.

Arguably the most important aspect of having your own style is being open to criticism. Not everyone is going to see what you have on and immediately compliment you. More often than not, you will encounter people who don’t like you simply because of what you wear, or how you wear it. These are the haters of the world, and it’s important to block them out because they can get to you, and a lot of the time get you to change yourself. Use these people as motivation to keep doing what you want and looking the way you want. Everyone’s fashion sense is different, and what you may love, others will probably hate. In our free society, acknowledge that you’ve been hated on, and continue to be great. This is truly the number one rule of having your own style. It’s always important to be comfortable, be yourself, and ignore the haters who will always be there to try and bring you down. In the end, you’ll find yourself to be more comfortable, and more confident in the way you express your style.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
