Simple Tips For Becoming A More Positive Person

"Be happy!" But in this day and age, it's harder than you thought, huh?

It seems that our everyday worries, obligations, and responsibilities constantly take away from our effort to be positive, and sometimes from our overall happiness. It's easy to forget that we have so much to be happy about and grateful for, but no need to worry. Here are 10 simple tips that you can take to become, or stay, the happy person you're truly meant to be.

1. Be comfortable in your own skin

One of the most important qualities that positive people have is the ability to feel comfortable in their own skin. If you embrace yourself, you'll be more confident and more likely to have a better outlook. Appreciate yourself and all of your imperfection. After all, nobody is perfect!

2. Don’t be so concerned about what other people think

Although it can be very difficult to ignore the opinions of others, focus on your own thoughts. Realize that your opinions about yourself, your aspirations, and goals, and everyday thoughts are more important than what other people think. Turn away the negative thoughts and opinions, and only focus on the good from now on. Never compare yourself to others.

3. Don’t stress

I know, stress is everywhere. It can be found in the simplest of tasks, and we can’t seem to escape it. Although some forms of minor stress can be healthy to our everyday life, most of us constantly find ourselves stressing about insignificant things, or things that may not need as much of our attention. Realize what's important in your life, and find the right balance. Try to not get overwhelmed by the little things, or taken aback by the big things. Everything will be okay, and it's important to remember that. Think positive!

4. Don’t make excuses

If you want something, go after it! The most common trait of positive thinkers is their incessant passion, determination, and need for success. They put their best effort in anything that they do, and they don’t make excuses. Sure, we all make mistakes, but just use those past flaws as learning experiences. Leaning away from excuses and defenses can only further your positive thinking, and help you to strive for success.

5. Don’t feel the need to be liked by everyone

This one may sound a little blunt, but in all honesty, this tip is 100% true. Like stated in No. 2, don’t be so concerned about what others think. Be yourself, and if people don’t like you for that, their loss! Embrace your true self, and find the people who support you and click with your personality.

6. Do something kind for someone else

This tip may seem simple, but a lot of people push it aside. It’s true: The more you do considerate acts for other people, the happier you feel. It’s a great feeling to know that you did something nice for someone else, but you won’t know it until you try it!

7. Ditch the past

This one is hard, but can significantly lead to a happier life. The past is the past, and your future is bright. Forget the negative memories and thoughts, and move on to a happier lifestyle!

8. Find some down time for yourself

It can be hard to find the time to do something you love, but it's necessary! Take some time everyday to relax and do an activity that you enjoy.

9. Believe in yourself

You're capable of many things, so believe that! Strive to do your best, and remember that confidence is key.

10. Appreciate and enjoy life

You’re lucky enough to have been granted another day on this earth, so enjoy it! Appreciate the people around you, and realize how truly lucky you are. Then, you will eventually find your own way to happiness and positivity.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
