20 Reasons Why Hoosiers Love Summer

Whether you go to college somewhere on the West coast, East coast, or somewhere in-between, there is nothing better than wrapping up the school year and packing your bags for home. My fellow Hoosiers, I am sure you know what I am talking about. The summer life in Indiana is one-of-a-kind and I will tell you why. Here are 20 reasons I love summer and why I cannot wait to get home!

1. All my best-friends will be in town and summer is the best time to make memories and spend quality time with one another. And since Indiana is such a small state the longest trip we'll have to make to meet-up with each other will likely be three to four hours tops. How convenient is that?!?!

2. Being on the lake 24/7. Again I repeat...BEING ON THE LAKE 24/7!!! Spending time near the fresh water is a cultural thing us Indiana folk embrace.

3. Every Hoosier goes boating whether rain or shine.

4. And we spend our whole day water skiing, tubing, knee-boarding, wake-boarding, and riding the jet skis. Life jacket tan-lines are a thing...

5. Fishing is one of my favorite hobbies...of course I can bait my own hook!

6. Enjoying a massive cookout with all my friends and family. This is a great time to forget about my phone for a little while and have some awesome conversations with my cousins and relatives, and of course listen to my Nana talk about her favorite sports teams.

7. Hosting late-night bonfires and making s'mores.

8. Seeing all the greenery! It rains quite a bit in June, so not only does that help our crops grow, but it makes for some beautiful scenery.

9. Piling into the truck with my friends and watching movies at the Garrett-Auburn drive-in.

10. Watching all the beautiful sunsets.

11. Going to cheap summer concerts...can't forget Country Fest!

12. On Memorial Day weekend, Indianapolis is the place to be. I can't wait to tailgate my heart out and watch the Indy-500.

13. And on those scorching hot and humid days, nothing beats laying out or hanging around the pool with my family.

14. And then partying it up late at night in my best-friend's hot tub.

15. I can't wait for barn parties and a good old round of Thunderstruck. ;)

16. May and June are prime months for weddings, so I better prepare myself and practice those moves for the dance floor.

17. Exploring the state parks and natural trails around my hometown. I can't wait to take my siblings and doggy exploring, it will definitely make for a memorable experience.

18. So summer means that my younger cousins and friends are graduating and I get to enjoy free food and great company. I'll also get some good laughs while looking through embarrassing photo albums. (In Indiana, graduation parties are a big deal and senior pictures are an even bigger deal. So I'm pretty sure I'll be walking out of the party with a couple of wallet photos.)

19. With all the rivers and creeks that run through Indiana, canoe trips are inevitable and should be done at least once. I am ready for the annual canoe trip and this time I won't forget my cooler!

20. And finally the best part about living in Indiana for the summer would be spending time relaxing by the water and enjoying the company of all my favorite furry friends.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
