UT Dallas

The culture at the University of Texas at Dallas is unlike anything you will find elsewhere. The campus is full of incredibly unique people with different passions that make the campus so diverse and special. Whether you live on campus or are a beloved Road Warrior commuting, each UT Dallas student has their own experience and these the ten things each of us know to be true:

1. Your all time favorite joke is telling people that UTD's football team is undefeated.

Undefeated since 1969, baby!

2. UTD's mascot is something from your nightmares.

Think you've seen that grin peeking out from your closet at night? It's probably just Temoc. His name is COMET spelled backwards, because our school is creative like that.

3. Trying to find a parking space has made you a better stalker.

Whether you're blessed to have a gold or green sticker, we're all in the battle together, so enjoy your thirty minutes of daily afternoon stalking.

4. You'll graduate with a record number of parking tickets.

You have no proof, but you know they're out to get you.

5. Oh you want some Panda Express for lunch? Enjoy your hour long wait.

Don't even think about cutting out of line to go to Subway or Chick-fil-a. It's not any better. If you want to skip the lines all together, just pop on over to Ben and Jerry's. According to childhood science, It's okay to have ice cream for lunch every day.

6. The campus has been under construction since your freshmen year.

"Oh we need new sidewalks? Let's shut down the entire north side of campus for eight months." Best idea we've had all year!

7. You've perfected the Whoosh and have used the mini-whoosh on appropriate occasions.

Got that cute girl's number? Mini-whoosh. Scored an A+ in Chem 1? Mini-Whoosh. It's the sound a comet would make if there was any sound in space. Obviously.

8. You've become an avid supporter of the chess team.

Did you know they can play chess blindfolded too? PROTECT YOUR BISHOP, GLENN!

9. Finals is almost like UTD's own special family holiday. Everyone is celebrating together in the library without any shoes on. It's fantastic.

Ah, the smell of McDermott in the wee hours of finals week. We here at UTD do not believe in deodorant or any kind of perfume... especially during finals week.

10. No matter what organization, major, or residential hall you are apart of, you love UTD no matter what. It is your home and you wouldn't change a thing.

Well, except for the parking... and the constant construction... but other than that it's great!

So have a fantastic semester Comets, and continue whooshing your way to graduation!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
