Every single day in Mexico City there are women battling with street harassment, otherwise known as "Acoso en las calles". With this issue growing larger every single second of every day Mexico has now come to have the largest rate of violent acts against women in the world. These women are now speaking up against the harassers and showing the people of Mexico that they can no longer turn a blind eye to this violence. In Mexico City, a group of young women also known as "Las Hijas de Violencia", which translates to "the daughters of violence" have come up with a new innovative way to address these men. In this video posted by Al Jazeera Plus this past Wednesday, it shows the women taking action and firing off their confetti guns at the men they see harassing women. "We run after this person, we grab our confetti guns, we shoot once, we turn on the speakers and we sing "Sexista Punk" (a punk rock song)" says Las Hijas de Violencia member Ana Karen. There hope for this movement is to inspire women to speak out against harassment. "If with us responding, we can encourage more women to do the same it's ideal. We recommend that you have fun with it." says Ana Beatriz. The women of Mexico City have been victimized for too long and this is a step in a new direction for justice in making their lives, among many others better.
