Six Reasons Working In An Ice Cream Shop Is The Best
Summer Job

I have worked in my fair share of food places throughout the years from chain restaurant to a small town café. However, my current gig at my college ice cream shop is by far the best job I have had. Sure, it isn’t an internship, but it is still the best job around town. Here are five reasons why working in an ice cream shop is the best job during the summer.

1. The customers.Ice cream makes people happy and happy customers make for happy employees. Whether you are a grown adult or a child, ice cream is always a delightful treat that makes summer special so everybody who comes into an ice cream shop has a smile on their face.

2. You beat the heat. Central air is a godsend during the cruel summer months and thankfully, an ice cream shop always has central air to keep the ice cream cold so you can always beat the summer heat.

3. It is the right amount of work.Working at an ice cream shop is not mind-numbingly easy nor is it rocket science, which makes for the perfect job because the summer is all about relaxing and having fun. Save the 9-5 job and internship for next summer.

4. The tips are always a nice perk.I have worked at plenty of food places, but working at an ice cream parlor has definitely proven itself to be the best in tips. If you are looking for some extra cash, and let’s face it most college students are, tips are great for pocket money after a long day’s work.

5. The coworkers. Let’s face it, an ice cream shop just has a laid back feel no matter which one you go to. This makes for laid back, easy-going coworkers to make you feel at ease during that three hour rush of families heading back from the beach when you feel as if the line is never going to get shorter.

6. The free ice cream. This is the by far the best part about working at an ice cream place. It is not every day that you get free ice cream, but working at an ice cream place allows you access to all the flavors you want. Whether it be a delicious sundae, milkshake, the classic cone, or endless samples, you can always count on it being free because you’re a hardworking employee so you should be able to indulge a little bit.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
