What's The Best Advice Your Parents Have Ever Given You?

Advice comes in all forms, especially when it comes from a parent. Some choose the sincere route, offering words that only come with years of experience and wisdom, while others are blunt with no sugar coating because, inarguably, that's how life is. Regardless of the approach, all advice is appreciated; it may not all be good, but it's welcomed. So here it is, some of the best advice a kid could hear from her parents in its rawest form:

1. "My mom has always told me this, and her parents always said it to her... that life is all about hard work and treats. Work hard every day, always strive to achieve to the greatest of your potential, and then treat yourself with small things... like dark chocolate or a good coffee or a nap or $100 Lululemon pants."

2. "Whether they are mental, physical, or anything in between, people's disabilities do not define them."

3. "Be your own best friend and you'll never feel lonely."

4. "Be true to yourself."

5. "The more time you spend creating relationships with your family, the more enjoyable life becomes."

6. "Best advice my dad has ever given me was: don't spray hairspray inside the house, it'll get on the walls."

7. "'Just Breathe.' No matter the situation, I hear my mommy's voice utter those two simple words and suddenly I remember that I can get through anything."

8. "Exhale, slowly open your eyes, and remember how precious life is."

8. "What goes around comes around."

9."If you're knowingly behaving badly, you should count on it coming back to you."

10. "'The best piece of advice my parents ever gave to me is to enjoy life in the moment.' Of course they warn me about the future and saving money but they also understand we get one life and we should have as many adventures as possible."

11. "Remember who you are."

12. "This too shall pass."

13. "My mom always says 'God doesn't like ugly,' meaning karma will always find its way back around."

14. "Lead with compassion."

15. "Don't ever compromise your values and beliefs."

And the simplest, yet most comforting of all.

16. "It's going to be okay."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
